A while back I discovered Essentia mattresses, the only company making natural memory foam mattresses. The average foam mattress uses about 61 toxic chemicals, but Essentia mattresses are made of water, natural latex, cone essence, green tea essence, jasmine essence, and plant solid extracts.
They are giving away a Kingston Natural Dog Bed to one of your pups! The bed is made of shredded Natural Memory Foam and natural latex with an organic cotton sherpa and a non-slip grip bottom. The winner can choose a small bed (for dogs up to 20 lbs), medium bed (for dogs up to 60 lbs), or large bed (for dogs up to 110 lbs).
UPDATE:
Thank you all for submitting such sweet comments and cute furry friends! Congratuations to our winner Wil and his dog Jäger!
This is Jäger! He found me in 2007, still a puppy, after he got out of his old owners house right before Christmas, and they went out of town, leaving him in the cold! When they finally called me a month later, they told me I could "keep him". Their loss! He had to have major surgery on his knee in August of last year and sure could use a good dog bed! I help him leave the smallest footprint on Earth by walking him, where he and I pick up litter (He doesn't like the part about having to throw food wrappers away!), his favorite dog toys are natural rubber, and he eats only natural, healthy dog food! See more photos of Jäger here.

Here's our 12 year old Chocolate Lab Donna. We adopted her from a family that after six years just didn't want her anymore....She's gotte be the sweetest dog ever... how can you just give that up? Anyway, we're gratefull she came into our life. She is my best friend and shadow...were I go, she goes. She just turned twelve, but is still healthy and happy! -

We picked our Hurley specifically because he was a border collie, rescued from the side of the road on SC with his litter mates. Being a bc he typical and does not have an off switch, but is one of the few that we knew could keep up with my boyfriend backpacking trips. This picture is one of a few where he is finally off, but still with his toy so he can wake up and play again. Our pup helps us get out of the house on the most miserable of days, and as much as we might dread the thought, we always appreciate being out and enjoy the views from our walks, whether it is in the neighborhood or at the local reserve, -
Dear Alicia (poem from my dogs) ~
We're four little dogs,
With a super cool mom,
She took us all in,
And saved us from harm!
Our dad is the man,
He brings home the bones,
And always when chilly,
He shares his warm throne.
We read your blog daily,
And beg with our paws,
Please give a bed,
To a very kind cause!
Truly we're spoiled,
With a home of our own,
Fresh vegan meals,
And never alone.
So please us consider,
Our favorite celeb,
The one thing we don't have,
Is an Essentia bed!
Thank You ~ Calvin, Sydney, Ricky & Chloe ~ http://thekindlife.com/user/photo/3494387 -

This is Spartacus. His story is attached to his photo. He was rescued from a farm where he had been chained outdoors and starved. This is him at a year old. We as a family "paw lightly" by recycling, walking and using our bikes instead of driving (unless of course due to weather), and doing our best to buy recycled items, we waste nothing and make sure we eat healthy and organic. We donate regularly to animal shelters, and rescue and rehome as many animals as we can. -

Our 7yr old Goldendoodle would love a new bed. He came from our local shelter. -

My dog Max and I have been together for 12 years. He’s always been my “adventure pup” and he absolutely loves being outdoors, running through streams and exploring nature! Two summers ago he fought off cancer, and this year he’s had to battle several infections. Despite being very active in his younger years, he now has arthritis and spends most of his days resting. I would love for him to have a bed to rest comfortably on, and I think memory foam would help alleviate his arthritic joints. Max loves being vegan—he’ll do anything for a black bean or edamame, and he also enjoys tofu and tomatoes. His favorite thing in the world, though, is sweet potato. Lucky for him, he gets pureed organic sweet potato every morning to help him take his arthritis medication! And I also like to make him sweet potato dog chews. http://thekindlife.com/user/recipe/3492667/dehydrated-sweet-potato-dog-treats

http://thekindlife.com/user/photo/3492841/daddy-and-pipes
I would love to win this for Pipes. He was my dad's dog. My dad passed away last month from liver cancer and so we now belong to Pipes. He was my dad's best friend and I don't think he really knows what happened. He's a big eater and insists (adamantly) on being petted all day long. He used to sleep with my dad but is a little too old to make it up to our higher bed. He's also gone through a major diet change since living with us. He is really overweight and has some issues with his front legs. He is unwittingly joining us on our journey to living a kind life. -
http://thekindlife.com/user/photo/3492772/momo-pup
Momo was rescued out of a dumpster! He was found in a dumpster as a puppy with his sister by a nice family who saved them and gave them an opportunity to be adopted. We love Momo with all our hearts. He also battles skin allergies everyday. He needs to wear a cone every time we're not home to prevent him from rubbing the fur off his neck. He's a good pup and I believe eating a vegan diet will help Mo and his allergies. He's getting used to eating vegetables but isn't completely convinced haha. He enjoys eating broccoli stems and apples. We'll get him there and be more eco-friendly in addition! -

My two pups who "paw the earthly lightly" are the 2nd and 3rd from the left. The 2nd from the left, Mr Fox, was found running around my neighborhood back in April and his older brother and mentor, 3rd from the left is Scooter. He too was a rescue two times over... He lived with a family for the majority of his life then came to live with me when he was about 10 yrs old. As you can see they have quite a few friends. When we can't walk to do our errands, we cruise around in a used hybrid vehicle and often sharing the ride with the pups you see pictured. My pups eat as organically & naturally as possible; they love avocados, green apples, carrots, nuts etc... and although they are not vegetarians (yet), they eat a grain free raw meaty bones diet which means they are taking what the butcher would otherwise toss away. They play with recycled toys and chew on raw frozen marrow bones to keep their teeth clean. They drink purified water purchased from the Co-op water purification machines using refillable 5 gallon jugs, and they hardly ever have to visit the vet because they're active, eat a clean wholesome, preservative-free diet and are full of love. When we hike, we usually have at least 3 other pups with us, so we're car-pup-poolers and we do our best to stay abreast of ways to tread lighter. Sharing a new eco-friendly bed with our pup friends would ROCK! :) -

This photo was taken the other day first thing in the morning of my two rescues: Chloe and Lily. Its clear that it is my bed that they take over however they would love a new comfy bed so momma can get more sleep :)
My girls paw lightly on the environment by eating a 100% vegan diet with v-dog food, mixed with vitamineral greens and yummy fruits and veggies. They love homemade vegan dog treats and munch on carrots. We use biodegradable shampoo/conditioner and poo bags. On top of that they are ambassadors for our local rescue and come to walkathons and events promoting veg friendly lifestyles, showing dog owners that dogs to can be vegan and thrive! -
I meant to post this link which has the full-sized photo of Skyler

http://thekindlife.com/user/789633/photos
This is Skyler, my 14 year old Lab. She is still pretty spunky for a 14 year old but you can see the arthritis in her toes (inner toes; front paws). I would love to win this memory foam mattress for her to ease the pressure on her joints. She does her best to be good to Mother Earth by only eating her mama's homebaked biscuits made from all organic ingredients and she also eats only veggie "rawhide" bones to keep her teeth clean. And of course, she only uses biodegradeable poop bags on walks. If her mama could think of other things for her to do, I bet she'd agree, no problem! Someday, says her mama, there is going to be a doggie septic system in the back yard so no more disposing of dog poo in the landfill! Although Skyler is not so sure about this idea because she only produces a few small, beautifully shaped poops per day, unlike her younger sister who produces mounds of the stuff! -

This is Banjo, My Australian Cattle Dog/Terrier Mix rescue pup. We have had him since he was 8 weeks old, he is now 2. He loves to romp in the snow with his pup friends. This was two weeks ago after a hike in the woods in Burlington, VT -

This summer my boys and I decided it's time we start composting their poo... They offered to dig up the holes and I would fill them in with their generous contributions! Well, it started out that way anyhow! Now we've got a more sophisticated system going, and it feels really great not to be tossing big plastic bags of poo into a trash can every week! No more need for ANY plastic bags around here anymore!
P.S. Zeus and Dozer say thank you to everyone on the site for all the vegan dog food tips! They have never eaten better! -

Meet Mr Hooches, a boxer-bourdeaux mix. Real name HOOCH, named after the Dogue de Bourdeaux in the movie Turner & Hooch, by the staff at the kill shelter in AL. He came to me broken and battered - underweight, scared, and heartworm positive. With appropriate medical treatment and a Kind Diet he recovered well; only to tear his cruciate ligament. We attempted herbals, acupuncture, & therapy, but it required knee surgery within the year following. The surgeons believed it to be from his past of improper nutrition & abuse. Logistics say if the initial tear is not do to a recent injury there's a 60% chance of tearing the other side within 6 months. 5.5 months later we were back at the surgeons. Now 2 years from the last TTA surgery my bionic buddy is in no distress, happy, and healthier than ever on his kind diet. He even finished his first "running" event this year, The Howlin' Mile which benefited the local shelter. -

Here's Jagger! He's a boxer who was given up by his original family and adopted us for his new family! We're so lucky he picked us!
We help him to paw lightly by feeding him a healthy vegan diet. He's thriving on it! He has also been an ambassador for vegan eating for our friends and family! -

Heres a picture of all 3 of my babies. We have a 3 year old boxer, and a 3 year old boxer/Rhodesian ridgeback mix. This picture pretty much represents the things that are most important to me in life. -

Hello,
This is my retired racing greyhound, Cher (aka Cher Bear). This photo was taken shortly after I adopted her and we've been together about 5 years now. She is an easy-going, very sweet couch potato and if anyone wants a companion that does well in smaller spaces, requires very little exercise, and doesn't bark (typically) - contact your local greyhound rescue!!! Cher likes vegan food and treats and enjoys using natural bath products not tested on animals. Her poop bags are biodegradable or re-purposed produce bags. Cher is preparing to become a foster sister to a beagle from The Beagle Freedom Project and is all fired up about it! She would love to have a new bed to share with her new mate!
Thank you,
Dawn -

This is my boy Walter. He's 15 years old. He has put up with my environmentally friendly ways all this time mostly by taking long walks by my side to the store instead of jumping in the car, snuggling under blankets to keep from using the furnace too much, happily gobbling down all the organic kale, carrots, avocados, and other goodies we pick out at the farmer's market. And to boot, my Kind Lifer has a heart of gold. He always comes to the aid and protection of smaller animals, be it at the dog park, in nature, or in his own home or backyard, as if it were his mission in life! Now that my sweet boy suffers with back disease and after recently surviving a bloat surgery, he doesn't get around as well. But he'll never let us leave him out on any long walks we have to make. We just load him in his buggy and happy is he! I was so excited to see a natural memory foam bed. I'd love to see him rest his old bones on one of these. And knowing Walter, he'd share it with his two brothers and give all the other neighborhood dogs that stop by to visit him a whirl on it!
Thanks for reading about Walter!
