How about a "Fatherhood" category too?

I know, I know -- you probably don't expect many men to visit this site, but on the off-chance that I'm not the only one, it would be cool for the guys to discuss parenting as well.

For instance, I've got a little 11-month-old that I'm raising vegetarian at the moment and I'm wondering what the best sources of protein might be for someone that age. Any mom or dad out there with some suggestions would be wonderful to hear from!

Best,
Michael

Hi Michael. Kudos to you for speaking up for including the dads. :-) Perhaps a parenting section would be best so all parents can share their issues and ideas.

My daughter, vegetarian from birth, loves beans and rice. We're vegan now, but when she was your child's age she loved bananas, avacados, yogurt, soy milk, beans (mashed up a little, of course), lentils, and more. Maybe some of those would be good options to try.

Megha -- Thanks so much. Great suggestions! We've also been cutting up some veggie burgers and tofu -- the little guy is loving them.

I am not a parent, but Dreena Burton's cookbook Vive Le Vegan has a handy food introduction schedule in the back...plus she goes into how to prepare certain foods for babies.

Awesome suggestion Michael! Why not just call it Parenthood, so we don't segregate the men and women?

Hi Michael! I also have an 11 month old and he just adores beans of all kinds. Just shoves them whole right into his mouth. Warm, cold, doesn't matter to him!

I second the motion of calling it parenthood instead of motherhood! As far as protein goes, beans, beans, beans! My 2 year old loves beans. If you buy them dried, it's dirt cheap and super easy. Also, baked tofu is one of my son's favorite foods. But it depends on personal palate. My daughter can't stand tofu, for instance. I recommend the book Vegan Lunch Box. It has lots of kid-friendly recipes. The author also has a website (that was voted BEST blog one year not too long ago - not best vegan blog, best blog period!): http://veganlunchbox.blogspot.com/. Good luck!
