Health conscious and mostly vegan based diets since 2002. In connection with living the healthiest lifestyle I can, I am in search of face/body cosmetics that are in line with a healthy lifestyle. However, I reside in San Antonio, TX where it's not easy to come by vegan/healthy/holistic products. Can anyone including you Alicia, shed some light and share some secrets?

Many thanks,
K Dixon

I know that for me, even before I embraced a kind lifestyle, my fair skin was super sensitive so products that did not irritate me were hard to come by. When I was enrolled in my holistic health training, I encountered recipes to make my own products using essential oils and other natural products like shea butter, jojoba oil, and real ingredients. At first I followed the recipes simply as homework assignments for my Aromatherapy and herbalist training, but I realized that my skin never got irritated when making them!

If you have time, you can scour the web for recipes, or find bulk suppliers of raw ingredients like cruelty free soap bases and lotion bases, and then blend in essential oils for their healing properties and natural scents.

Let me know what kind of products you might be looking for. I might be able to post some specific recipes or look for my suppliers. I used to have a store and was even making products but I got tired of retail, and as such, now only make enough for my own use. Most recipes are very very easy to make. The one drawback is that you may have to refrigerate the products but there is nothing nicer than a cold eye gel!

At this point, I find that while my search for vegan cosmetics has been futile in Kansas, I can use tea tree oil for the occasional acne flare up, lavender and chamomile blended into a shea butter base for treating sensitive skin conditions, and can combine grapeseed oil with peppermint and wintergreen oils to make a great massage oil/muscle rub.
