Unfermented soy is really not good for us. It's high in phytates and known to be a potent enyzme inhibitor. I'm concerned about the recipes in The Kind Diet that call for soy milk or tofu. Eating soy products like these for years led to numerous digestive issues that I am still battling. Any thoughts?

Hey Kelley - I had my thyroid removed and find that soy contributes to thryoid disease and alters my levels of medication. I met a women the other day that was told by her doctor that soy was not good for anyone battling breast cancer. I'm always looking for substitutes for tofu and soy products. Fortunately, there are other sources of vegan "dairy" and protein. Amy's makes some great alternatives. I also found that rice milk is not half bad. Check out Daiyafoods for cheese substitutes. They are amazing.

Almond milk is great. I also take synthroid for my thyroid and I really notice a difference when I eat soy so I try not too. There are lots of choices though. Lentil burgers and the use of all different kind of beans. You should check out the Thrive Diet by Brendan Brazier. Alicia mentions him in the book and he does not use any soy of any kind.

I so agree on almond milk - LOVE it, too, Kelly. (Or should I say Kellies? :) ) Actually, the mighty almond in general is a hero food to me - love almond milk, almond butter, roasted...but I digress, sorry.

Thanks, I had no idea of these possible effects of soy!

I am also a fan of almond milk. Has anyone tried Hemp milk? I have picked up the carton many times at the store and read the package, but I haven't stepped up and actually brought it home to give it a go!

read the part of the book called the great soy debate. i address all of this..and the superhero recipies are all free of the soy you are concerned about. we are trying to help make easy transitions for people who are not as far aong as you are...while arming them with solid healthy info. im sure after you read the book you will not have these concerns and will understand where we are coming from with the soy. thanks so much for your healthy journey!its all baout making the best possible choices for where you are at.

i love almond milk too! i know soy has many benefits, but i try to keep it balanced and not over do it. like maybe one soy meat a day, and then almond milk with cereal.. im sure soy is better for you than dead flesh though!!

I like almond milk better than any other "milks" I have tried. Coconut is pretty good as well. Hey Catherine :)

I really want to try hemp milk. I heard somewhere that it's the healthiest when it comes to dairy subsitutes. Maybe, maybe not. I always like the cartons it comes in though.
