Hi there from Nor Cal!
So I have been a vegetarian for about 1 1/2 years, definitely with my weak points. I turn 30 this month and am having a little life wake up call. I want to get rid of my extra weight, headaches and vertigo. I want to feel good all the time and fuel my body with what it thrives on. So glad this book came out when it did. It was sure perfect timing for me!! My sister is vegan so she will be there for support. I am just getting used this lifestyle and also love being a big part of an eco-friendly way of life. I also have a very supportive husband who is all about whatever it takes. He will totally go vegan with me as he did with vegetarianism. Anyway, so hello and thank you for this site and ofcourse the book, Alicia. I appreciate you more than you know. Everything happens for a reason!!
Welcome to your new life! I am on that transistion as well...maybe we can support each other. Although sounds like you have a ton of support already. My girlfriend is 120Ibs and eats whatever she wants and never gains an inch so she is not interested in becoming vegan although she is veg for the most part. I try to speak to her about the health and environment benefits and she's supportive but at the same time she's always offering me sweets and that's not so supportive but since she's never had a weight issue she doesn't understand how it can hurt. sigh....part of the reason I am here...for a support system.
I have been a Veg since april...I did it to become slimmer but I haven't really seen the results that I seek...but I am tired of counting calories, points, and the like. I want to be free from all that, this fat suit, and feel good in my body and be the woman I know I am on the inside.
Let's do it!!!!!
I am new to the Vegan world also. About a month now. I have been an on and off vegetarian for a few years but initially I was raised on meat, cheese and pizza dough. It's interesting how many people including my family have all kinds of preconceptuions about the "Vegan Lifestyle"My brother and father are dead set against it. They think it is truely unhealthy and way to costly. I have tried to explain to them otherwise, but it's tough! They have been trying to talk me out of my path, but all I can hope is that one day some of my knowledge, experience, and recipe idea's will rub off or inspire them at some point. So nice to be able to chat with everyone here on this site!!Kris:)
thanks!! I am very much looking to this site for support from people like you. I have my sister but friends on the other hand are not so supportive. I haven't even told them about my new awakening. It is hard to explain it to people who don't have an open mind.
journi, we can definitely support eachother! All we need is the kind, right? I am about a third throught the book. It's great. Very to the point, easy to understand and user friendly. I also do not feel like the person I really am. I am going to change that!!
Welcome everybody! It's so exciting to see so many new vegans! I'm pretty new to veganism myself. I've been vegan for 2 years, veg for about 7 years before that. If you have other vegans to support you and read up as much as you can (recipe books, health books, animal rights...), you will totally be empowered in this way of life. It's the best decision I've ever made, and I hope you guys have the same experience.
im so excited by all of you! thank you so much for your brave open hearts!!! you are gonna love it here...welocme home!!!
