I just got the Kind Diet and I'm almost done with it, and I am going to go vegan! I'm really excited and passionate about it, not only for my health (and weight loss) but for the benfits to the animals and the planet. However, I also feel very overwhelmed right now....not that this will stop me. I live in Northern Minnesota (born and raised) and no one else in my family is vegetarian, let alone vegan. If anyone has any tips for a newbie I would be greatful!
I don't have any tips, but I do understand where you are coming from. I grew up in Northern MN and now live in ND. There aren't many vegetarians, let alone vegans around.....well there may be but it's unknown to me. It's funny that people in this area think they will DIE without meat.
Hana- I think it is a process for everyone. Your transition as well as everyone around you accepting it. I found that the easiest way to have my family accept it was to always bring my own food. They never felt put out and at some point it just became the norm. I also never tried to push my views onto them. Over the last few years they have started eating some of my vegan dishes and baked goods which made me feel great!!!! Good luck!
Thank you both! I will definetly be bringing my own food to my family gatherings, as I don't want anyone to feel put out, or that I'm trying to push my views and new habits on everyone. It's a process but I know it wll become second nature soon!
HI! Hey, I SOOO feel you, Hana and fellow Kind Lifers (VERY new though I am - LOL). I've had a really fortunate and interesting (not to mention really flattering!) reaction from, for example, my Mom, who said "I wanna know what you're doing, whatever it is it's looking good on ya!". Lord knows I've got a looooong way to go - I'm a veggie somewhere between a flirt and vegan - but suprising feedback like that helps - sometimes people WANNA learn like us. :) So don't be shy or afraid, kay? They're gonna see what you brought and be all curious and turned onto it and we'll all blame Alicia, right? ;)
I also am inspired and will be going vegan. I have been slowly working my way to that anyway, but didn't know about dairy and fish. Now I understand. I am a serious animal lover and can't stand the idea of hurting creatures. I feel a little overwhelmed also and thanks giving completely stumps me......what do vegans do for thanksgiving. Help
