Hi Alicia -

I'm not familiar with some of the ingredients in the book (although the used umeboshi on Chopped last night on Food Network), and I'm wondering if you could give us maybe the top 5 or 10 exotic ingredients that you thing we should be stocking our pantries with and where you typically find them. I have a great Asian foods store, but then again, if I can go to my regular grocery store and not make a special trip I'm happy to do so.

Thanks so much, I just love the book and I can't wait to start cooking!

depends on what your regular store is. I went to Whole Foods confused as can be in regards to some of the items on the list and found a couple of helpful employees who got me everything, nearly. There are about 3 different seaweeds in the book and some odd other things, but most can be found @ W.Foods.

What do you think the top 5 or 10 ingredients are? Like, the things that are called for often? (The exoctic ones) :)

I had the same idea so I went through and made a list for myself. From what I could see it looks like the most often used ingredients [that were unfamiliar to me] were: Umeboshi Vinegar, Brown Rice Vinegar, Brown Rice Syrup. It looks like the recipes use several different types of oil but I did note that many used Extra Virgin Olive Oil and different types of Sesame Oil - all of which can be found at a local grocery store. She did use a White Truffle Oil in one recipe which I'm willing to bet Whole Foods has.
Oh and if you have a Fruitful Yield near you, they may be a source to get some of the ingredients too.

I live in a smallish Canadian city. No chance of finding a lot of the Kind Diet ingredients locally. Anyone know a good online place to order in Canada, preferably in Ontario?

I couldn't find umeboshi vinegar or the umeboshi plums?

I live in Sacramento CA and I went on a shopping adventure today! We have a good Asian foods store so I got my kombu, shoyu, and umeboshi plums there....then I went to the health food store and they had it all there anyway!

I LOVE the umeboshi.

How do the umeboshi plums come? Like what area of the store would I find them in?

Found Umeboshi Plums and the vinegar at my local whole foods in the Asian section. Both are made by Eden

They were in the Asian section at my local co-op. They are on a shelf in a plastic container. The Asian store had them near the seaweed.
