I've been reading health material for years (magazines and books) and something that's been drilled into my head is: Eat every 4 hours, eat 6 small meals. How does that fit in relation to the Kind Life/Diet? Alicia (or anyone who's following the book's plans), do you snack between meals or really stick to 3 meals and dessert?

I eat 3 meals a day, but I listen to my body when I crave snacks. I never deny myself something I'm craving if I have it in the house and it's vegan :). My snacks are whatever fresh fruit is in season, veggie sticks with hummus, fresh fruit juices, nuts, or the occasional vegan ice-cream and muffins! I haven't gained any weight; in fact, the little pooch that I had on my belly is gone. I find I feel fuller on the superhero diet, and if I'm not careful, sometimes I get stuffed! I'm 22, and I think my metabolism runs pretty well, but the superhero diet was the only thing that got rid of the tummy, even better than lots of crunches! I think it's awesome. You could do it by eating 6 small meals, but I think 3 with snacks in between is perfect. Good luck!

I eat three meals a day and snacks in between if I need them. I don't think there's any hard, fast, rule; that's what I've learned reading all of the books and changes over the years. I agree with evie--listen to your body tell you what it wants.

I've also had the 6 meals drilled into my head, combined with lots of protein since I've been doing bodybuilding. It's been hard for me mentally to adjust to eating less frequently, but one thing I've been doing is reading "Eating Mindfully" by Susan Albers and getting back in touch with when I'm really hungry. I've found that I often don't need all of that food I was eating before if I just pay attention to when my body really wants more. But if you've been tuned out for years like I was, then it's hard to really start listening to what my body really wants.

I always snack in fact I think that I snack way more than I eat meals. its easy to do in a plant based diet...alot of snacks are plant based if not plant themselves. I personally love fruit, wasabi peas luna bars...things like that.

I love these forums to know other people have the same concerns as me. I try to pay attention to what my body wants but I find myself reaching for cookies (or whatever sitting at the community table) during lunch or at parties and I eat without thinking. I hate that side of it! I'll look into the "Eating Mindfully" book (thanks skm_pdx) and I'll pack healthier snacks so I can reach for those instead of cookies (thanks for the suggestions, Evie).

Why not make the 3 meals and just divide them in half to eat them 6 times a day if you feel better when you eat smaller more frequent meals?
