A Great Bakery

Since no one has posted in this particular section yet, I figured I'd share the name of one of my favorite bakeries in Rosendale, New York (near New Paltz). He calls himself the alternative baker and makes everything from vegan to gluten-free to sugar free...etc. He also makes traditional baked goods with eggs and buttermilk, but everything is completely local and free range. He is so awesome! I have called him and said, "I have a friend with Celiac's disease and she wants a light, fluffy, vanilla birthday cake," and he custom-created this exceptional tasting (and looking!) 3 layer extravaganza that tasted better than any vanilla cake I've tried! Recently, I asked what his vegan baked goods for the day were, and the list was too long to remember, but he had pumpkin muffins, blueberry muffins, chocolate muffins, devils food cake, various cookies, an entire selection of vegan breads...He has a new vegan "house special" every week! Most things are even sugar and wheat free (he tries to use natural sweeteners). Anyway, I wanted to get the word out there in case anyone is interested in going there or ordering from him (I believe he ships)! His website is http://www.lemoncakes.com/. He also makes custom wedding cakes (and really custom anything if you call him in advance), is no more expensive than a "regular" bakery, and is generally a nice guy who loves feeding people good food!

Vegan Treats is located in Bethlehem, PA which is outside of Allentown and about 1.5 hours north of Phila. My husband bought my birthday cake there this year and it totally rocked. Every year he gets a coconut cake. This year was the first vegan one and it was the best, hands down. He also picked up a few choc chip cookies for the kids, which i sampled and they were awesome as well. Check out their site- www.vegantreats.com lots of treats and a fantastic philosophy and commitment to conservation and animal free treats. Their site is cool too. Also, there is a link that provides the location of restaurants in NYC, Phila., and Baltimore that carry their creations. They do wedding cakes too:) Enjoy! I know I will!

Vegan Treats I live 15 mins from there it is amazing. If you search them more they also supply to stores in NYC, Philly, and even Virginia! Also Balasia in the Allentown Farmers Market is all everything. They do breakfast, lunch, dinner and even had a Thanksgiving feast open to 100 people!

I second Vegan Treats. Their stuff is AMAZING.

The two vegan bakeries that I frequent (that are also amazing) are The Sweet Avenue Bakeshop in Rutherford, NJ and Babycakes in NYC. If you go to Sweet Ave, be sure to get a Frosting Shot. (there's also a diner, that serves vegan food, right down the street.)

I've also recommend Emily's Desserts (in Baltimore, MD).

I am also from the Bethlehem area! Maybe some of us locals should have a meet and greet at Vegan Treats!

Kate I'm somewhat local. I'm over in Jersey. It's fairly easy to get to if you know the area. Do you know where the new Sands is?
