I just had a "Duh!" moment reading this. I have been so congested I almost couldn't talk. I was sounding like a gravelly old lady. I'm still congested but SOO much better today. I guess i'm detoxing.Oh and last week I was feeling the flu thing but never was really sick but I did leave work early one day due to feeling crappy. It all seems to be passing. I didn't even connect it with the diet until i read this. Thanks, guys.
Hey, I've been wondering how long detox can last? Or if it can come and go? I've been vegan for about 6 weeks now (except for 2 bites of cheesecake on my boyfriend's birthday :-) ) and I was vegetarian for about 10 years before that, so I didn't expect to experience much detox.
But, I'm 6 weeks in and I'm still experiencing some weird digestive issues. Last night I woke up at 3 with indigestion and couldn't get back to sleep until after 6, and today I'm kind of queasy, and these feelings aren't exactly rare for me. Could it be detox? Or should I look into food allergies maybe?
Michelle, I wonder how long detox can last too. I got really sick on day 4, and today is day 18, and I feel amazing! My husband though, has had digestive symptoms and is lethargically tired. He is going to back off the superhero diet for a bit and eat cereal and pasta. I am loving it. We've been doing it 100%. How are you feeling? Eric, my husband, has had the queasy, nauseous symptoms too.
Andrea,
I know it can take up to 6 months to rid our bodies of everything we had before, but what I have seen about detox a few weeks ??
Thank, Toni. I feel really really great and my husband after adding cereal feels great too! Thanks for your advice.
Ok, reading all this makes me think I'm doing something wrong, cause I haven't experienced any of the things you guys are saying. I'm only on day 10 on vegan and didn't eat a lot of meat before, (maybe twice a week) and have more energy than ever. I'm like a cooking, and cleaning machine. I have only experienced lots of trips to the bathroom, but that has just resulted in a flatter stomach, but no weight loss, even though I work out. I have cut out all meat, seafood, and dairy and I haven't had alcohol or soda for 5 months. Will I detox more if I cut out more stuff like gluten and soy? Should I be doing this?
Wow so here I am three months later and still loving vegan dieting! I feel so much happier and healthier. I must say every time I eat a bit of dairy, I feel the detox symptoms within 24 hours now. I can't stop blowing my nose, and it is not normal "snot" that comes out. After eating dairy, I often can't even breathe through my nose for a few hours that night! It's incredible, but it's true consistently.
Jen G, I wouldn't go so far as to cut out gluten and soy just yet. You certainly can try, but I don't think it's necessary yet, given everything else you've recently changed about your diet. I'm experience slow results too, but they're coming! :)
Iwant to say that my congestion has been completely gone for about 3 to 3 1/2 weeks now. I actually forgot about it.
Thanks Heather! But I will say, that today (day 12ish) I'm exhausted. It could just be a weird day, but all I can think about is sleeping-which I love, but I don't even have enough energy to go workout. I've decided not to cut out soy or gluten yet, but I'm not even tempted to have any dairy or meat cause my stomach is getting a bit flatter!
Well, i feel better after reading these posts. i'm on my 14th day of being vegan and starting yesterday i started experiencing diarrhea. i went through the other detox stuff-phlem, rash, fatigue, but this diarrhea is new. i'm hoping it's not gonna last too long. But if it wasn't for that i'm starting to feel really good...mentally, and energy wise. not to mention i've started sleeping like a baby and waking up feeling refreshed. And i've lost 6 lbs. since starting this and i am not counting calories at all, it's great :) Good luck everyone!
