i agree with Alicia. This all takes time (converting to VEGAN) and it is so worthwhile. I find if you keep it very simeple:Whole-food, plant-based diet and stay away from the processed soy foods, it makes it so much easier on your colon and intestines. THERE ARE YEARS of built up sludge and other toxic mass in your colon/intestines that has no other way out. (Sorry for the graphic nature of my comment). I found that as soon as I ate 'processed' soy or other meat similar things, I bloated too. It's natural. The weight gain is temporary too.
Water is key. do your best to be sipping all day long. 8-10 glasses to FLUSH out the toxins.

Salads, green smoothies (blended veggie and fruit drinks) are so easy to assimilate, filling and your body will love you. They are EASY to make too. Suggested Green Smoothy consumption:1 quart a day. (EXAMPLE: 2 cups filtered water, 5-6 large leaves of kale, 1 banana, handful cilantro, 1 apple, 1 tbsp agave nectar)

I also embarked on detoxing with colonics. It HELPED TREMENDOUSLY. As I mentioned before, there are years of toxic build up in your body and it needs help eliminating this stuff. Your beautiful skin, healthy organs, clear colon, clear eyes, etc. will thank you. The good stuff you are eating now is getting trapped by the old sludge in you and FERMENTING. It's pretty simple. It's blocked up. Do your body a wonderful service and help to clean it out and then bring in all the new clean food. It is brilliant!! No more gassiness. AND now it is free to start absorbing all the yummy REAL nutrients into your body through a clear and clean colon and intestine.

I have to say I love the vegan lifestyle. I had been a vegetarian for about 6 weeks before going completely vegan and announced to my family I was no longer cooking them meat. They could either eat what I cook or starve. LOL I have two children 8 and 9 who are both picky eaters and my goal is to make things that they will actually eat and get excited about. My oldest has been helping me in the kitchen and we are having so much fun... BUT... and here is the part where everyone will laugh. I have been using so much olive oil and earth balance to make everything so yummy that Ive gainned 3 lbs since Ive gone vegan. I had lost 13 after becoming a vegetarian, I was really suprised with the weight gain. I do know why it happened and I seem to have leveled out. Plus I am slowly lowering the fat content in the food and making more greens and everyone hasnt seemed to notice the small adjustments.
What feels the best is that not only are my kids getting involved but our planet is benifiting from my vegan choices. No more contributing to some of the most horrible crimes on our earth and for our earth. Becoming more aware and being a positive example to my children and the people around me.
I have come to this conclusion. Being vegan isnt only about me, If I can make a small outward contribution to the earth and the people in it, I dont mind gainning a few pounds in the process. Yes I need to lose some weight, but Ive got the rest of my life to fix my body.
This life is Invigorating!!!!
Im so glad you posted Caroline! I applaud you for not giving up after gainning 7 lbs, but looked for guidance! Those 7 lbs were gainned in the love of our earth and everyone in it! And then to lose the seven plus 10 more.. WOW!
Someday we will be a Family of Superheros!

I too have gained, 3 lbs in 10 days. I work out 5 days a week and have been eating clean, drinking water and feeling pretty good....the weight gain is just so surprising and agitating. Additionally, my face has broken out like mad. Within about 3 days I was a complete wreck.....whats up?

My face has broken out too. I think it's still a form of "detoxing" off the yucky stuff. I read somewhere that as you burn fat the toxins that were in that fat have to come out of you somehow and often will come out through your skin. I don't remember where I read that so it may or may not be reliable. Since I'm exercising every day now and wasn't before because of the fibro pain, that made sense to me but I could be very wrong.

Hopefully, someone else around here who knows more than me can give us some insight. :-)

detoxing is an amazing thing and it's how our bodies cope after abusing them for so many years....imagine all the toxic build up in every organ, in every cell, in every part of your body and it has to go somewhere. Your skin is your biggest organ. It helps to facilitate your detox by allowing the 'junk' to come out.
Be well, drink TONS of water, eat tons of FRESH greens. Try not to indulge in anything processed. Just be natural and you'll be fine. It takes time to undo all of our abuse.
