I attempted to cook tempeh for dinner tonight. This is the third time I made it and it's always disappointing. Anyone know a good recipe that's not drenched in oil or too spicy?

Try some roasted tempeh:
1 8oz package of tempeh
2 tbs olive oil
1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
2 tbs shoyu or tamari
1 teaspoon of paprika.
Preheat oven to 375. degrees F.
Cut the tempeh into 1/4" cubes.
Steam over boiling water for 10 mins.
Mix the oils and paprika in a mixing bowl.
Add the steamed tempeh and toss to coat.
Spread on a parchment paper covered baking sheet
Roast for 30 mins. Stirring after 15mins.
Use in tacos, burritos, wraps, sandwiches or mix with veggies and grains.
You might like to experiment with less oil and different spices.
Enjoy!!

You could probably also do this with barbeque flavoring somehow, yeah? Just a though - although I'd hafta work out the specifics - LOL! Thanks muchly Rob, and good question, Meg, this is a basic I really want(ed) to know!

You guys should try the tuna salad sandwich (kinda) recipe from the book. Also, tempeh is freakin' awesome....even made simply. The key is to steam it for 5 to 10 mins before frying it up. So steam, then cut into small triangles or squares. Pan-fry the pieces in a little oil (and add drops of shoyu on each piece) and I swear it will be great. And my personal favorite is to get a great healthy bbq sauce from whole foods and add it to the pan-fried tempeh. Good luck. I promise it's super yum.
