What kind did they give you!? Is it plain mochi? Like light brownish in color? If so, you should 100% make the mochi waffles in the kind diet. Or pan-fry 2 by 2 inch squares of it in a little oil with a few drops of shoyu. But really, for a nice treat, hunt down a waffle maker and make the waffles with the maple walnut topping from the book. You will never need regular waffles again :)
