hi there! i am going to be in san diego, and the san rafael/marin area for the next few days. where should i get some yummy vegan food?
SipZ! I'll be there on Thursday - whenever I get to go it's a treat, they have a sushi bar and some of the best fake meat stuff ever, tons of variety. Also check out People's Market Co-Cop, it's 100% vegetarian with an awesome deli.
I visit San Diego a couple times per year and Sipz on Clairmont Mesa is wonderful! There is also a nice small thrift store next door to peruse. I think Sipz only has a couple items that aren't vegan.
Natures Express on 5th and Quince near Balboa Park has an awesome all Vegan menu, everything from pesto burgers, pizza, raw salads and amazing desserts. Also try Peoples Food Co-op Deli in Ocean Beach which is all Vegan as well. Sipz is always great, mostly Vegan and all Vegan sushi after 5pm.
Funny I was going to ask you where to eat in San Diego! I have heard great things about Nature's Express but hav e not tried it yet. It's really surprising (and disappointing) there are not more vegan restaurants in San Diego. Nonetheless, I hope you enjoy our beautiful city.

San Diego has quite a few options and is better than some places in terms of vegan/vegan friendly places.
I heard Loving Hut is good but I haven't been there yet.
There used to be a raw vegan place in Carlsbad but it looks like it closed up. Soup Plantation is a place I usually go when I visit because I'm a sucker for salad bars.
Jimbo's (natural food store) has a lot of stuff too. The one I visited in Carlsbad had an entire case of vegan desserts.
LOLOL This is so awesome! I am halfway thru the book- it was on preorder and took the post office forever to get it to me- but I am moving back to CA and coincidentally San Diego (La Jolla) by year end and REALLY want to know the places to go- this is so helpful! PLEASE keep the suggestions coming- and Alicia- you mention in the book there is a search tool for vegan restaurants by location? Please advise... and I just want to say to you that your book came along at the perfect time for me and I am really enjoying your writing syle- very relaxed and personabale and relatable. I would REALLY love to connnect with the SD vegetarians/ vegans on here to begin establishing a healthy network when I move. Please anyone email me at prankstar7@yahoo.com- let's have eating get to gethers. I am a private chef and turning vegetarian/vegan.... and I LOVE to BAKE! :D

Also, there are some options in Orange county like Native Foods which you can go visit as well.
I wish there was something within walking distance of the San Diego Convention Center. I go every July for Comic Con.
