Soy alternative?

I am a new vegetarion (only 6 months). It has been VERY challenging as I have hypothyroidism. Soy for those with hypothyroidism is like kryptonite and Superman LoL. I want to go vegan, but I love cheese and sourcream and the only vegan alternatives I hav efound thus far are soy based. Any suggestiona for vegan products that are soy free? Any suggestions on recipes, web sites, sources, etc. for cooking vegan that is soy free? Any help would be so appreciated. Thanx. ;-)
Honestly, I don't eat a lot of 'vegan products', I just eat a lot of whole foods including whole grains, legumes, vegetables, nuts and fruits.
I've never tried vegan sour cream but I have had vegan cheese and honestly, I choose to forego. What do you use cheese for right now? There are cheesy sauces you can make with nutritional yeast.and other types of cheese like products you can make with cashews, it really depends on your use.
A quick search came up with this recipe for sour cream:

This might sound a little weird, but perhaps you should check out some raw food recipe books. A totally raw vegan diet didn't work for me, but I still have several cook books that I go to for something extra yummy. I think making these products out of nuts is probably your best bet. I don't think raw foods use much, if any soy. Hope this helps, at least a little :).
Oh my gosh! Thanks everyone so much for all the great suggestions. I had no idea I would get so much support from this site. This is amazing! None of my friends are vegetarian or vegan so I am kind of on my own out here, so, it is wonderful to find a forum that offers so much support from like minded people. Thanx again everyone. I really appreciate it. :-D :-D :-D
