For my first seitan meal: I dredged West Soy chicken style seitan pieces in flour seasoned with garlic salt and pepper and sauteed them in EVOO along with red onion. Sandwiched on toasted whole grain Italian bread spread with Veganaise, tomato slices, and dill pickle slices. Yummy ! Next time I'm trying the Seitan Piccata recipe in Alicia's book.

LOVE Seitan. I have made the one recipe she has in the book from the Candle Cafe ( the white wine one with capers). It was fabulous.

I tried seitan once and thought I didn't like it (must have been the sauce). Yesterday I had those field roast "wheat meat" sausages that Alicia recommended on Ezekiel bread w/ ketchup, mustard, mushrooms, and saurkraut...the works! Those things are great, and it made me feels as if I was being so bad!!! :) anyway, seitan is pretty awesome. I'll try some recipes soon :).

I am new to enjoying the vegetarian way of eating. Read Alicia's book, went to the grocery store with my list. I could not find seitan. Was not really sure what it was so i went to our one local organic market and they never heard of it. Can anyone enlighten me as to where i might find this. Was looking forward to trying Alicia's recommended recipes. thanks

I made the Seitan Picatta from the book and it was sooooo delicious!

Peggy - I found seitan at Whole Foods right next to the tofu. They only had one kind - I believe it was the West Soy chicken style that Mark used.

Thanks Amy - unfortunately i live in an area where we have no "good" grocery stores such as Whole Foods, Trader Joes......just one little organic market. I was hoping it was something I could find in a regular grocery just wasn't looking in the right place.

I'm glad someone didn't know what seitan is cuz I don't really know either. Also, what is mirin? I am wanting to try kabocha stew but some of the ingredients I've never heard of and have no idea where to find them. Where I live we only have Kroger. They have a small section of organic and vegan foods that I've been exploring but I haven't come across alot of these ingredients. There is a Trader Joe's not too far from where I work so I can look there sometime but it helps to know what I'm looking for.

I, too, have to be creative where I shop because we don't have any really good healthy shopping stores. I found it in the refrigerator section next to the tofu. If nothing else, I'm sure you can order it on the internet too.
