Hi there
I have a bit of a problem. Since being vegan (about a year now), I find that I don't really want to eat but when I do I am suddenly very hungry. This happens no matter if I have breakfast or if I wait til the afternoon to eat. Also it happens no matter what I eat.
Wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to how to deal with this. I don't want to starve myself but don't want to overeat either
thx
Hi Victoria!
About the hunger--when you're eating well, your digestive system is working really efficiently and can process healthy foods a lot faster than before. I know that's what I noticed anyway. Please know that eating when you're hungry is NEVER "overeating"--your body is letting you know that it's ready to process some more food. It might be that you are eating just enough to satisfy your hunger, but not more that would help you from having such a sharp hunger for your next meal. I would try eating a bit more during meal times and seeing what happens....and adjust portions as they seem to be working for you. I hope this helps!
That happens to me when I go too long without eating. Sometimes I will forget to eat, and then my next meal I am STARVING when i finally get food in front of me. Then, I pig out and feel bloated and awful haha. My remedy for that has been setting set times in the day to eat. I don't follow it too strictly, but it does help me a lot.
My basic routine:Drink water and a date or two before jogging early.Breakfast (usually green smoothie unless I am cold) around 9Lunch around 1 (often drink some tea in between breakfast and lunch)Snack around 330 or 4Dinner around 7
This keeps me eating throughout the day so I don't overeat. Works for me at least =)
thanks for the advice - I probably don't eat enough in the morning and combined with the fact that I work odd hours and often don't have dinner until 1am or lunch at 4 (like I did today - not my choice I work in hospitality!), its no wonder my appetite is stuffed.
I will try to add something to my toast tomorrow morning and see if that helps. The only prob is - my family aren't exactly healthy (case in point - someone has just come in with a huge bottle of coke and 2 bags of chips/crisps).
A little off topic but does anyone have any thoughts on the book.. "Eating Right 4 Your Blood Type? By Dr.Peter J. D'Adamo with Catherine Whitney}At one point a nutritional consultant had recommended it to me....
Victoria, I really struggle with hunger too- but I eat at very regimented times. Probably because I'm get hungry so fast... I eat at 7, then a snack, then lunch at 12, then a snack, then dinner at 6:30, and then i get hungry again.. and when I wake up I'm STARVING. I think I need to eat more or something... I do agree that it's healthiest to eat every couple of hours and that hunger is a good thing. I just don't to get to the point where I'm so hungry that I will push someone out of the way to get to the food. I'm also a newbie at this so that's probably part of my problem . :) Let us know how you're doing in a few days!
Kristy- I haven't read the blood type book...
