After not eating red meat/pork in a month and cutting out all meat the last 2 weeks.......I have caved and ate meat. I was tired on not knowing what to eat. I am really struggling as my family is meat eaters. They are open to trying new stuff but I am a loss of things to eat as this is all new to me. Maybe if I start slower with the cutting out meat it will give me more time to adjust......

any suggestions?

Buy some cookbooks! There are so many foods to choose from, you just need to allow yourself to get out of your comfort zone. Try something new every week. Do some research. Read books/watch videos on how meat is "made." Try "Slaughterhouse" by Gail. A Eisnitz, watch "Earthlings" free here http://www.documentarywire.com/earthlings. Although it is difficult to watch/read these things, they document what is actually happening. Everyone should know about this. Read up about the health benefits of a vegan diet. Learn as much as you can! The more you learn, the less likely you will be willing to "cave." Two weeks is not enough time to fully adjust to this new way of eating, living. Give it time! Good Luck!

Thanks! I think I will just try a couple days a week all vegetarian to get started. Get some cookbooks and just start trying new things. I really do not want to eat meat, but at this point I think I still need it a "little bit" while I work on cutting it all out.

Thanks!

Hey Everyone,
I went home last night and re-read some chapters of the Kind Life and I am sticking to no meat eating! It's what I really want to do! I'll just keep coming back here for motivation!

You can do it Jennifer. Maybe at first you should just focus on cutting out meat and being vegetarian. Then focus on moving forward from there. I've been vegetarian for 6 years now and I had a few slip ups the first 2 years I was doing it. I've tried to go vegan several times and this is the first time I've made it a week. I did have one piece of a cake that probably had eggs in it... but I'm not going to beat myself up. I'm trying and I'm going to do this!
Think about all the different reasons you want to do it: ethical, environmental, health, weight loss... there are so many reasons. Let us know how you're doing!

I'm in the middle of reading the book "Eating Animals" and don't think I could ever stomach eating chicken again...try giving it a read - I bet it helps curb your cravings! Good luck and hang in there and remember...baby steps are awesome too, don't beat yourself up over so called "slip ups" life is a journey :o)

I found a good cook book on the weekend that is easy and has simple ideas in it. It's called "Clean Food" by Terry Walters. You can do it Jennifer! Start small, make tiny goals and celebrate your success!I tried many, many years ago to be vegatarian. Right idea, wrong timing. Now it's aligning and I have managed to have a vegan lifestyle for 9 days and counting. We are here for you anytime!

I also caved! After weeks of eating wholegrains I made a pancake with white flour on the weekend and had white rice with my lunch yesterday. Both experiences made me feel really bloated, Suffice to say I won't be doing that again. Made me think about what I had being doing to my body for all those years!!!
