Hi Julie. I'm from St. Louis too, and I've done several searches for vegan restaurants. Nothing so far. Vegetarian, yes, mostly on S. Grand and CWE I think. Maybe we should consider opening one? ;-)

I was talking to a friend about trying to locate a vegan restaurant in the area, and lo and behold, she mentioned OR Smoothie. Said she's loved everything she's tried there so far. While not strictly vegan, the restaurant does offer vegan selections on the menu. Looks like there are two locations in St. Louis. Hoping to check it out over the Christmas holiday when my vegan daughter is in town! Here's the site: http://www.orsmoothieandcafe.com/

I'll be following this post as I'm from St. Louis. I currently live in NYC but I visit St. Louis once a year and am always sad that it seems very hard to find vegan. Honestly, the waiters seem shocked that I would not want both meat AND cheese in my meal. You guys should open one!!! When I visit, I'd just live there!!

I was going to mention OR Smoothie as well. Also, I overheard two people in Whole Foods talking about VegaDeli the other day. I think it just opened, and it's an all-vegan deli in Chesterfield. I haven't tried it yet , but from their website, it looks like they're also expanding into "grab-n-go" kiosks: http://vegadeli.com/

This is great! I will add VegaDeli to the short list of places to try in St. Louis! Thank you!

Heading to Chicago next weekend, so I'll be on the lookout for a place to try while I'm there too.

I'm so happy to hear this, too! I'm also from StL, and go back about yearly. Frankly, I'm surprised there's not more, but I guess I shouldn't be. Mom was skeptical when I told her about my switch, so it's nice to have some places we can go.

Update: I ate at OR Smoothie for the first time today at lunch (I've been there for several post-Bikram smoothie runs but never tried the food), and it was great! I had the vegan sushi, made with brown rice, avacado, tofu and carrots. It totally satisfied my sushi cravings I've been having. Looking at the menu, I would say the food is about 85% vegan or capable of being made vegan. They had a couple raw dishes and several things that would qualify as superhero/macro. It's definitely a place to try if you live in St. Louis!

Pi is a restaurant down in the loop that serves vegan pizza. Its amazing. All their thin crust is vegan, and the cheese is vegan, but its amazing. You can get the salad to be vegan too. There is also a place down off cherokee and jefferson called Shangra La's and its amazing as well. Most of the stuff is vegan but its all vegetarian. You can get breakfast food (i.e. french toast all that good stuff) and they make these vegan hostess cupcakes that are huge and are called hostess with the mostest. They are amazing too. Also there is a bakery down by tower grove called sweet art and they make any of the sweets there vegan and they are all incredible. hope this helps!

I am so excited to hear this! I am a new vegan and live in St. Louis. The one thing that has been most dificult for me is when my family wants to eat out. I have found nothing for me to eat. It gives me such a left out, lonely feeling. My girls wanted to go to McDonalds the other day. I just ended up bringing my own food. It really suprised me to see how limited the options are when you go out. I really thought that there were more vegans out there. I guess not.
