When I got married last year, no one could get over how good the food was, and it was all vegan! The meal was from Gail's Vegetarian Catering (http://www.gailsvegetarian.com/) which is actually entirely vegan. The "crab" cakes were amazing! And we had a beautiful cake from Sticky Fingers Bakery (http://www.stickyfingersbakery.com/), which people told us was the best cake they'd ever had. Just wanted to give a heads up for anyone who might be having any kind of event in the area!

Hey nic
Just wanted to say Hello from Kent Island/Annapolis area and thanks for the post. I was looking in the Annapolis area on line but these look great. Thanks Blake

Definitely some awesome vegan restaurants in the area Carol - check out www.vegdc.com for the full list. Some of my favorites are The Sunlfower, with locations in Vienna and Seven Corners, Java Green in the Farragut section of D.C., and Sticky Fingers Bakery (which also has lots of meal-type foods in addition to desserts, but for desserts there's nowhere better!) - there are a ton of new places as well though that I haven't been to but I've heard good things. And Blake, that website has a whole section on Maryland too (although personally I've found the D.C. and Virginia restaurants to be better) so if you haven't already, check it out!

Funny because I always thought the Maryland restaurants were better !

Great Sage is a bit out from DC but a fun restaurant to go to ocassionally and Yuan Fu and The Vegetable Garden in Rockville are both really good. The vegetable garden is a bit on the healthier side but Yuan Fu has quite a few healthy options and I love their food.

Admittedly I've never been to Yuan Fu, but I think the Sunflower has the same type of food as The Vegetable Garden but it much better. But of course, it's all personal preference! Great Sage is amazing though; I sometimes forget about it because it is quite out there, but once you're there you can go to Roots (organic market) and the natural clothing store and the natural pet supply store (which I've forgotten the names of) so it's worth the drive!

Thanks a ton! I am now in the SF area and there is a huge vegan presence so I didn't know what to expect while visiting the DC area again. When I lived in the Tysons area I did try Sunflower and LOVED it! Great ambience inside too -- so cute. Thanks again for the recs and I'll see what we end up eating :-)

I loved the food in San Francisco as well! The Herbivore is amazing! I'm jealous you're going back and forth between those two locations - I spend most of my time now (temporarily - just a few more years) stuck up in the most rural, vegan-unfriendly place I've ever been! It's not hard to be vegan here, just no fancy vegan restaurants to go to, so enjoy them for both of us!
