Hi everyone! I just joined the site but have been using the Kind Diet since the day it came out (I very possibly may have sprinted over to Barnes and Noble I was so excited!). I am loving the changes I am seeing in my body, my mood and my tummy! I have tried a few of the recipies so far and they are super yummy. I only have one problem, I am moving to pawleys island in May (I am back and forth right now b/w there and w-s, nc) when I get married and there are just not many places that are vegan friendly. I am trying to use the vegan diet part of the book and some of the superhero recipies and it is hard to find the ingredients I need around town (no whole foods etc) and organic produce is even harder to find in the winter. I also would love to have some fun vegan friends to cook and play with so let me know if any of you are in that neck of the woods!
Much love, Britt
Hi Britt!
I live in Cary, NC and go to Myrtle Beach a good bit in the winter/fall/spring -- not summer that much ---- the problem is pawleys island/ myrtle beach etc are mostly tourist areas and so many places as you prob see are closed in the winter. I would say that your best bet would either be to take like a weekly trip if you can on the weekends or something to whole foods in mount pleasant --- and also see if you can find a local farmers market. maybe ask some of the locals about some farmers market in the area. There is a store in winston salem though -- I think that is where you said you are in NC --- also a lot of grocery stores have an organic or local selection at the grocery store -- I know our food lion and harris teeter do here at least..... so maybe the same would be true for the the stores in pawleys island!
You can also check with the restaraunts. If you find one that uses a lot of organics that are in season, ask the owner if he has a local guy that you can contact. Most places will be more than willing to sell to an individual also because they don't want the produce to rot and it helps them regain some of the cost in maintaining their own business.
