Hi everyone!
I'm Rena, 32, living in Switzerland and starting to be a vegan. I already tried a few times, but summer or better the grilling season, hit me hard. I love meat, I have to admit, whereas I can easily go without dairy, although I live in a land of cheese. But last week I ordered Alicia's book and "Vegan with a Vengeance" and want to try it again! I'd like to loose some pounds and I have a lot of trouble with my digestion, and I hope to adjust both with the kind diet.
The biggest problem I see is in getting good vegan stuff here in Switzerland. People think, it's just not normal to go without dairy, but I will survive, I'm sure of it. And the good thing is: I'm going on holiday to NYC and thought, this is a good start for my journey :-)
I'm not sure if I will go vegan completely until christmas (my mum will be really offended if I don't eat her cookies) but I will flirting a lot and go vegetarian for this time. After christmas I might take the next step and maybe there will be a time, when I go superhero. The good thing is: I don't like processed food at all, I love whole grains and beans, so that will be easy. But I really have to increase my veggie-eating and cutting of sugar will be really hard for me: I love chocolate and I couldn't find any really good substitute (don't forget, I'm Swiss ;-) ).
I hope I will get some good ideas here! Great page and Alicia, I love, love, love your book!
Hi Rena, welcome!! Wow, I dearly loved my visit to Switzerland - soooo beautiful and vital and friendly.
Hi Karen
Nice to hear, you enjoyed your visit to Switzerland. Where have you been?
Still in NYC and love it :-) Will keep you posted from my vegan experience in Switzerland, when I´m back :-)
I have a friend Yves that was born and raised in Switzerland., he is vegetarian I will see if he or his wife have any suggestions or vegan recipes that might help. I have several recipes that can help you make that transition. Tell me, do they have vegetarian frozen burgers there? Boca Burger is a brand we have here, one of the varieties are vegan. If you can get vegan burgers let me know . I have several recipes that are easy and delicious and use burgers. Oh yes, one of my best friends Tracy, has a vegan restaurant here, I'll bend her ear also.
Oh no, I had such a long post and now everything is gone :-( , but so many nice posts! Thanks a lot!
I'm back from the States and I really, really loved New York City. Although I couldn't test any vegan restaurant. My friend was not very thrilled to hear my suggestion, so I just stayed vegetarian. But I got introduced with Silk Tofu and I have to admit: I love this stuff. It is like egg-white! So I can still have my scrambled egg on Sunday mornings!!!! Perfect.
@magic lady: thanks for the help. I doubt that the transition will be so hard for me. I used to be a vegetarian in my teens and early twens, so I actually know some grill stuff for the summer season ;-) And I don't eat a lot of processed food, so I won't miss burgers :-) (but maybe a nice entrecôte from time to time, but I will survive without ;-) )
At the moment, my boyfriend is paying a visit. He is actually working in Germany at the moment and I don't see him so often, although we try to see each other every other weekend. First I was really sad of course (we used to live together), but now I kind of like it, because it makes me becoming vegan far easier. He is a real carnivore, he just loves his meat :-) So I have to think about a nice dinner for today and the following days, that might please him. Thanks to Alicia and Chandra Moskowitz I have a lot of recepies on my hand, now I have to look, what my health food store gives away :-)
I also realized that I don't eat (or drink) a lot of dairy... I drink a latte every day (not from Starbucks!!!!), but I could skip it or make it with rice or almond milk (I don't really like soy milk, it makes me feel sick, although I love Tofu etc.) and I like my Parmeggiano over my spaghettis, but if the sugo is really nice, I often forget it... So I just have to make really nice sugos all the time :-)
@Amy: That sounds perfect. Looking forward to a better digestion.
Keep care!
Hmm, I just realized, that I wanted to put the first post in the introduction section and not here
That's why I couldn't find it in that thread  Because, here it is a big wrong, I will start going vegan next week and stop flirting around. But, it doesn't really matter ;-)
