Vegan Chocolate Chips - Trader Joe's?

Hi,
I was making vegan cookies last night and I used Trader Joe's semi-sweet chocolate chips because I could not detect any animal products. However, my vegan friend informed me that if an ingredient is "sugar", then it was filtered with bone shards or something like that. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Or should I just play it safe and get labeled "vegan" chocolate chips? I was super bummed because I love TJ's choc.. chips and they're reasonably priced.
Thanks,
Jules

Amy - thank you so much! I had no idea about sugar! I will write Trader Joe's because they really are good chocolate chips. If they use the bone-char method, I'll vote with my wallet and opt for the Sunspired.

Thanks again!
Jules

Amy - you were right they did get back to me! They said that the sugar is sourced as a commodity and may have been filtered by bone char. I just bought the grain-sweetened Sunspire chocolate chips, thanks for the suggestions!

i just bought some vegan chocolate chips from Whole Foods...no sugar, just evaporated cane jiuce. And they were only $2.99. I've paid close to $8 in health food stores.

yah, the wholefoods 365 ones are super good. so far i've just used them for a snack straight out of the bag. they also sell some that are sweetened with something else, i don't remember what now, in the bin section. they're triple the price though.

Ty, we do that here as well. You cannot taste the difference. My husband, who is a self proclaimed chocolate aficionado could not tell a difference. He only wants me to use these chips from now on.
