Hello fellow runners! I am currently training for a half marathon as well and love the way going veg has improved my running and the way I feel overall. Running stronger with more energy! I would like to find a vegan energy supplement to take during long runs for sustained energy. Would love to talk running and share tips. Happy Running!

Yay for marathon runners! I've done 3 half-marathons and am running my first full this fall. Any advice for a vegan energy supplement to take during those long runs/on race day?

Also - I almost always get terrible stomach pains after my long runs. Any suggestions?

I am training for the Boston marathon in April and the Steelhead 70.3 (HalfIronman) at the end of July.
I am just starting this Vegan lifestyle after doing Kathy Freston's 21 day cleanse starting Feb 1, '10

I used to be so worried about getting 'enough' protein, but feel so much better going to a plant-based diet.

I think everyone is so different on what they need pre-run. My husband can go out on his 20 mile run at 4am with no food and just take a sport drink with and some Clif shots with him.

I need food before my long run, usually steel cut oatmeal. And I carry some sport drink with me and drink about 8 oz. per hour. Right now my long runs have reached 18 miles with a 16, 20 and 22 miler to come.

I also highly suggest the Thrive Diet. Lots of good info for athletes.

I guess my biggest comment would be that there are plenty of endurance athletes out there that are Vegan. It is not something the you should be 'scared' of doing as you train for a big event.

The Vegan diet along with good amounts of exercise in my opinion are 'the fountain of youth'.
