I am starting as a 'flirt'. I am starting to transition the family to a vegan diet. As our groceries dwindle down, we are replacing them with vegan products. We are all very excited to try a new way of eating. I think the most exciting part has been...shopping! Our eyes have been open to a whole new world of foods that we didn't know exisited. I trip to the World Mart was like being in a different country, though we felt like we needed to carry a dictionary around to know what we were looking for. Fun, none the less.
We made our first "Kind Diet' recipe tonight; Collard greens....they were very good. We had a side of baked sweet potatoe. The entire meal was very filling. Tomorrow is the polenta casserole. We can't wait to taste more recipes.
When I decided, last week, to take an interest in this book and journey; I thought my husband would think "great...she's lost her mind" (though we have never been big meat eaters). But, he is totally 'on board' with the plan. I find him stealing the book from me everytime I set it down. He may need his own copy;)

Good to know there is somewhere else close that is loving this book. I feel that Northern Virginia doesn't make it as easy as cali on us flirts or vegans..

Hi! I'm from outside DC myself. I read Alicia's wonderful book about 2 weeks ago, and gave up meat right away....went meatless for the holiday. I didn't really intend to go fully vegan - thought I'd stay a flirt - but very quickly flesh started to seem distatseful to me (both physically and because of what I learned from Alicia's book) sso I gave up seafood too, then eggs. I am clinging to milk but I know I will give it up soon.

However, my family, while supportive, would not even consider this. I have 2 teenaged sons and they are all about cheeseburgers, steaks, and chicken. Right now I'm not pushing - just doing my own thing for myself. Wonderful that your family is on board!!
