I bought dried chickpeas then washed, soaked, rinsed and cooked. I noticed that these "shells" started coming off the chickpeas. Should I remove these? I took out the ones that were floating around but I'm not sure what to do about the rest. Any suggestions?

i have never removed the shells before cooking chickpeas, i don't think you have to.

I think you're right. I went ahead and made chana masala with them and I didn't taste a difference or notice the shells. I think I just never noticed them before because I never cooked them myself, I always used canned.

I love chickpeas and cooked them all the time. I actually cooked them in the pressure cook and they turn out excellent. Soaked them overnight, discard water, diced onions, two cloves of chopped garlic a little bit of cumin saute all of this in olive oil and then add the chickpeas and then cover them with boiled water, you can season with shoyu or sea salt to taste. I cooked them for about 20 minutes, but follow the instructions regarding cooking time of the pressure cook. Finally, after those twenty minutes open the pressure cook and check them if they are done, you won't see shells, I add diced organic rainbow chard, don't cook them let them wilt only. It is delicious, i hope this helps.
