Bacon alternative?

Ok, so I tried Morningstar "bacon" in a minestrone soup I made today. It was awful. Can anyone recommend something that I can use to replace the crunchy smoky flavor of bacon?
Not sure if you are willing to have "real" milk, but Bacon Salt is a vegetarian bacon flavoring. It is a salt, so use sparingly, but the bacon flavor is unmistakable. www.baconsalt.com I'm not really sure where the milk comes from in the bacon salt - I don't see it in the ingredients at any obvious level but it definitely says it contains milk in the allergen statement.
I can buy it at just about any grocery store.
