I started the Kind diet on November 1st. I hate to have to ask this, but is it normal to go from a meat and dairy diet to a non meat diet filled with grain and beans and have to deal with gas all day long? I feel bloated and constantly have gas. Ridiculous questions, but not sure who else to ask.
Hi Linda, beans and whole grains contain types of sugar and fiber that may ferment during digestion. Alicia suggests discarding the soaking water before you cook your beans ( if you started with dried beans). She also suggest you cook your beings with a small piece of kombu ( a sea vegetable) or even a bay leaf. She also suggests that when you bring your beans to a boil you skim off any foam that is produced. These cooking techniques may help. With continued exposure your body will produce more of the enzymes that are required to break down the beans without fermentation. it is also possible that you could take some digestive enzymes for a short period of time until your body adapts. Aspergillus niger It is quite effective but may not be considered vegan depending on the substrate from which it was extracted.
