Hello! I woke up this morning with that godawful burning sensation we all know so well - thank you, UTI. I have been a vegetarian for 4 years and have gone vegan/macro since reading Alicia's book about 4 weeks ago. I am determined to stop taking antibiotics but don't know of any other way to cure a full blown UTI. I've tried taking cranberry pills in the past and they help, but never fully cure it and I end up at the Minute Clinic.

Does anyone have any diet or home remedy recommendations?

I get these constantly and i won't take antibiotics either so I drink a ton of water and take a few shots of frozen wheatgrass juice i get from Whole foods. I'm also following Alicia's rec to go superhero as I get these constantly. My mom said she thinks I was born with one cause I've had them since I was a child. Drinking alot of water and also if ur real uncomfortable I find drinking hot green tea helps too.

Have you tried drinking the pure cranberry concentrate with no sugar added? I've managed to fight off a few lately with a combination of drinking a few glasses of the concentrated juice and one cranberry pill a day. Also, lots of water. There are times though when I've taken the antibiotics depending on the situation (eg, if my husband is out of town and I start feeling weird (more flu-like symptoms) i don't want to risk getting really sick and having to go the hospital with two kids in tow). While I like to avoid the antibiotics too....just make sure you're careful. I ended up with a terrible kidney infection once and had to go the ER. Oh, also, I sort of just in general try to take some sort of cranberry intake each day for prevention along with drinking tons of water.

Kate,Dietary change can be the key to prevention in many sufferers but use caution when infection is already established. Some find a cure with any number of natural remedies herbs, supplements or hydration. I agree with catgirl, don't wait too long. (It's already been almost a week since you posted)

I posted this for Amy before, but go and get some d-mannose, but be mindful that the infection doesn't start spreading. D-mannose is the secret ingredient in cranberry juice that most people don't know about. In juice it's just a small percentage, but as a pure powder supplement it's tenthfold the strength. You can also take d-mannose as a preventive for UTIs. I love and it's great to have it on hand. Also try it in combination with applecider vinegar a couple of times a day. Just a tablespoon or two.

I am currently being treated by an acupuncturist for chronic UTI's. I feel your pain. I think one thing I would add to the advice above, is to cut out all sugar. For me this seems to help a great deal. Unsweetened blueberry juice, is another option for the cranberry juice. Just make sure you don't let it go too long. I had a very bad UTI that I tried to treat naturally, and I ended up with Interstitial Cystitis. Be careful.

Renew Life makes a wonderful product called "Ultimate Flora Vaginal Probiotic". I get it at Whole Foods and it says on the bottle that it supports the UT. I take it anytime i feel an issue coming up. If I take it early enough - the feeling almost always goes away. It's definitely worth a try.

This may sound really strange, but I used to get these, and changing my laundry detergent and fabric softener made them go away. Not saying that is your problem but just a thought.

But I did get one last year while training for a 1/2 marathon, I think I just wasn't hydrated enough. the Cranmax tablets along with real cranberry juice and tons of water made it go away within a day or two.

Hope yours gets fixed quickly and your on the mend.
