Help! I have a work Christmas party this Sunday, and I'm not sure what I should bring. I've been looking for recipes online, and they have to be finger foods. I would like to bring a couple dishes that are vegan and all of my non-vegan coworkers would like. Any suggestions?
Ooooh Alicias Peanut butter cups or crspy treats or cookies (if you're ok with bringing something sweet) !! :)
Eek, I don't have the book with me for more ideas, I'm trying to remember sorry!
How about some savory ideas? I'm going to need to bring something to our work celebration, too, and I have the same requirements as Danica.
Yeah - I knew you guys meant savory but savory TKD FINGER food isn't coming to mind, but I KNOW it's there - LOL! I could swear there are some dips in there, right? Maybe Crocodile Crunch - people totally do mixes at parties!
Now, if you're talking vegan stuff outside of the book, wow, I could go on -
Veggies and/or vegan chips w/ hummos
Fruit skewers (wait, that's not savory...)
I've seen all manner of things in ball or fritter form which are party/finger-friendly - zucchini, felafels...
I'll shaddup and let other people help now - LOL...
Thanks, Karen! I'm just hoping for some options that the dedicated meat-eaters (and obsessed hunters) won't notice as being "different". They're already going to think I'm crazy. Vegan isn't exactly a Montana lifestyle, at least not here where I work!
I have a few recipes for appetizers if you are interested: Crab Cakes with Remoulade Sauce, garlicky white bean spread on crostini, stuffed mushrooms, all are from Skinny Bitch in The Kitch I also have a few that I bring to party that are not "different" to non vegans like bean dips and chips and also guacamole and chips. cucumber sandwiches are also a good finger food and you can swipe out the non vegan ingredients.
Same here, Quinne. I live in the middle of Kansas, and I don't feel like arguing about my Vegan lifestyle change at the party...I need something that doesn't shout, "I'm a vegan dish." Bean dips and guacamole would be good, and I actually already thought about the peanut butter cups. I made them once, so I know they'll turn out okay. I also found a spinach and artichoke recipe on vegcooking.com....mmmm.
I like the bean dip and spinach-artichoke ideas! I can't do guacamole, as I'm allergic to avocados, which is just about tragic, because I love guacamole. And I'm not making it for everyone else if I can't have it! And I'm going to have to try the peanut butter cups, because everyone's been raving.
I made the peanut butter cups for a party in October and while they were good, they were different. They needed to be refrigerated to stay solid. If I left them on the table they kind of melted and couldn't be eaten very cleanly.
Same with the peanut butter rice crispy treats :\
Tasted good, but not really meant to sit out on a table at a party.
heya danica - the mushroom/leek crostinis from TKD are deliciously great! however, one would need access to an oven to get those lil crostinis all toastie and yummy.
but could substitute - my sis and i the other day, had leftovers of the mushroom/leek melange, artichoke stuffs and pesto. we just heaped it onto strips of tortillas and rolled it up YUM!
same flavors, just different packaging :)
let us know how it goes :)
