I am very frustrated - When I see a number under "responses", am I supposed to be able to view them? Because I cannot. I can only view discussions; therefore I never get the answers I'm looking for?

If you click on the subject, like clicking on Help!! in you example, you should see the original message and be able to scroll down and see all of the conversations.
It gets a bit confusing when a topic has had a lot of activity and has more than one page of responses. In that case, when you click on the subject it automatically takes you to the last page of the discussion. If you want a different page, then you can click on the page number and go directly to Page 1 for instance.
I can still only view "discussions"? Like there's 47 responses and only 2 discussions.....when I view I only see the 2 discussions. What happens to the 47 responses?
In some areas, I have noticed that 'discussions' is actually the number of responses and "responses" is actually the number of views.

Karen, the screen in your above example is of the Main Forum Page. The link with 5 discussions and 85 Responses is a Category Name, not a Thread name. Clicking the link will show you the discussion threads contained within. Those are what you click to see the Responses.
Does that make sense?
