So last night after reading through the animal section of the book again, I cried.... again. I decided that yes I am helping them by cutting them out of my diet, BUT I really really NEED to help speak for them since they can't.

WHAT ELSE can we do, we must end this madness and let them be free. Like they are supposed to be.
If you know of other things you have done, or ideas.

thank you guys so much!

Hi VegVirgo,

There are so many things we can do to help the animals. Cutting animals and animal products out of your diet is a wonderful start. You will no longer be supporting factory farming and the abuse of animals used for food. As you purchase new clothes and accessories and makeup and skin care products, you can also avoid purchasing items made of animal products - such a leather and wool and you can avoid purchasing products made by companies who use animal testing.

If you look on-line, at websites such as PETA and In Defense of Animals, you will find lots of ways you can help, such as signing petitions and sending letters.

You can also volunteer at places like Farm Sanctuary or at your local animal shelters.

Is there a local Animal Rights Group or Vegetarian Group in your city? If so, try hooking up with them.

Thank you so much for being a voice for the animals!

You Rock!

Thanks for starting this discussion! I have wanted to volunteer at my local Humae Society, but I've been putting it off because I would want to adopt them all - BUT volunteers help keep it going, and without them who knows where they'd be:) I did some research on Farm Sanctuary in Ontario - couldn't find one close to me. Was actually hoping there woul dbe one, that I could go to.

care2 website is great for pettions!!

That is true... I can always volunteer... and I would LOVE to go to a sanctuary... just to hang out I am going to have to see if there are any around me...I just want to like picket outside a factory farm or something... THERE must be something else I can do..I am still so throughly shocked that this violence happens...

I have been looking for a farm sanctuary close to my home as well. My husband and I have been searching for one in our area because we wanted to go and hang out with the animals and volunteer if possible but have not been able to find anything. I have Googled and done some searching, so if any of you find a resource that is like a directory of some sort I would love to hear about it. We are in Austin, TX; this state is so big there should be plenty to choose from. I was thinking that Alicia might know of a good site or resource that indexes most/all of the farm sanctuaries in the US.

Hi Carlye,

Try these:

http://www.animaltrustees.org/ATA/site/index.asp
http://www.austinhumanesociety.org/
http://www.thunderingpaws.org/

This one lists sanctuaries by states: http://www.greenpeople.org/sanctuary.htm

VegVirgo, if there is an Animal Rights group in your city, try getting in contact with them. Quite often they will organise legal protests. That's how I got involved with protesting here.

Hope that helps!
