First let me say I am not complaining and absolutley LOVE that I'm feeling better, healthier and have more energy, but to be healthier I also need to lose about 30#. I'm 51 so the extra weight is making me more vulnerable to illnesses that are hereditary (stroke and heart disease). I am following superhero, have purchase all items so that I can follow EXACTLY but I'm not losing weight? I've been following (strictly) for 11 days now
Added thought -- should I try decrease my portion sizes? The portions per the book seem rather large? Just need some feedback please!
I'm in the same boat as you, need to lose about 50 lbs. But if you're following superhero, I'm baffled as to why you're not losing. Maybe portion size, but are you sure you need to lose the weight. You may be at a healthier weight than you need and just wanting to lose more??? It seems like on superhero your body will naturally get to it's healthy weight. I am not losing either however, but I think that secret starbucks trips and bites of the chocolate bark I made for teachers are to blame for me. I've been vegan 6 weeks, lost the first 2 wks. then stopped. I decided to go superhero sat. and while I'm doing great on meals, snacks are hard. Good luck to you, I guess cut down on portions. If you have any great superhero (easy, I have 3 kids) snack ideas I'd love to hear them.
I haven't even been snacking? I think the portion sizes may be too large, I'm going to cut down. I'm also trying to start exercising again. I went for a physical about 2 weeks ago and they agree I could lose about 30# so I think I'm being realistic? I'm feeling a little frustrated :(
its quite dangerous to lose weight too fast... cause if you lose alot of weight quickly it could be very easy to put it back on, you might even end up losing too much weight in the end! good idea to start exercising again. just ease into it. dont cut the food down too much. if your not hungry then dont eat, but if you are, it wont hurt you. EAT! great your doing superhero.
How many meals are you eating a day? The fact that you're not snacking may actually be hindering your weight loss, rather than helping it.
I tend to eat 4 to 5 meals per day. I don't actually count calories, but I have a general idea how many calories are in what I eat, so this is my average breakdown:
Breakfast: 300-400 cal
Lunch: 400-600 cal
Snack: 100-200
Dinner: 500-700
Dessert: 100-200
So that comes to about 1400-2100 calories a day. There are days that I may have a bit more or less but to maintain my weight, that's what I usually eat.
Here are some tips that helped me lose my weight:
Do you know your BMR? That's the amount of calories energy expended at rest to maintain normal bodily functions. Then you have to add in any extra activities you do during the day that would burn calories. Once you figure that out, you can start to figure out how many calories you need to consume to lose weight.
1lb = 3,500 calories, so to lose 1lb per week, you'd have to create a deficit of 3,500 calories in your diet (or 500 calories per day) - whether it be from decreasing the amount of calories you eat, or increasing the amount of calories you burn via exercise. To lose 2lbs, you need a 7,000 per week deficit.
The one thing that people don't realize is that you NEED to eat all the calories you're alloted. Eating less calories will actually prevent you from losing weight because your body will start to go into starvation mode. So you have to make sure that if you work out, you still maintain the calories you need.
And most importantly, Aim to lose 1-2 lbs per week if you plan to keep it off long term. It's been proven that people who lose more than 1-2% of their body weight a week, tend to be the ones to gain it back.
Hope some of these tips help! :)
Great! Thank you. On Superhero there's no mention of snacks? What snacks would fit into my superhero eating plan?
if you feel the portions are too large, then you could cut them down a bit. if your full then stop eating! listen to your body and your cravings. once all the bad stuff is out of your body if you crave healthy food and want to eat it, then go ahead and have it! all the superhero stuff is good for you, the only thingive noticed is that some food is a bit too salty for me. some people do better on a more small meals a day, and some people do well on 3 meals a day. it depends on your metabolism and blood sugar levels. remember to keep hydrated and listen to your body! maybe try pilates or yoga or something like that, they make u feel terrific and they use muscles you dont tend to use everyday so can help you lose weight.
try snacking on unsalted nuts, raisins, hummus with carrots or celery or other veges, or a natural nut butter (love almond butter) just remember nuts are high in fat. but fat is very important and you don't need to completely cut it out of your diet. foods with lots of fibre (fresh fruit and veges, wholegrains, etc) help you to feel full but they are very low in calories., so bulk up on these foods.
Just started super hero/ vegan eating and I too have wondered about snacks, but an Ayurveda counselor told me that in order for your metabolism to work properly that I need to give it the chance to get a little hungry because that is when it burns calories. So I have been trying to stick to three square meals a day. She said that it is important not to starve or deprive yourself however and learning to eat 3 meals that are large enough to get you to the next meal. Also I still have occasional snacks and I have 3 kids too. One of our favorite snacks is ants on a long . . .ever heard of it? I use sun butter (or nut butter) and spread it on celery and top with organic raisins, or cranberries, and since starting TKD I have been adding some roasted green pumpkin or sunflower seeds (with a little shoyu)--YUM!
