Weirdly enough, my PMS symptoms have gotten worse since becoming a vegan...I suspect because of more soy, and salt. Will be working really hard to lower the amounts of these two things. In the meantime...any ideas to help with the headaches and irritability I am experiencing?

Being vegan doesn't mean you have to eat a lot of soy, I avoid it and there are lots of blog by soy-free vegans if you need some help :)
I have had horrible PMS and cramps on the first day and then the first 2 days. My naturopath suggested a product called EndoFem, here's a link - http://www.endometriosis.com/development.htm - maybe you can find something similar where you are. I also take Evening Primrose Oil and Vitex Agnus Castus - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitex_agnus-castus I've also recently started using a castor oil pack on my belly in the weeks leading up to my period and I have noticed the cramps are less severe.
For headaches I use a Migra-Stick - http://www.migrastick.com/en/index.php
I've also tried acupuncture as well, you might find that helps too.

probaby worse cause you are detoxing....that is what period does...detox. eat as superhero as you can before your period...harder to do than say....but it will help so much to move towards that goal for that period time...and then make the drink i recomend in book....and rest!!!! we always forget to rest at this time when we need it most! the red tent!!!! i love that book

I agree with the detoxing thing. Since having kids, mine were ALWAYS very very painful!!! I would have to take at least 800 mgs of Ibuprofen for the first couple of days. The first one after beginning my Vegan diet was different, but still really bad. After that they have been super easy!!! I didn't even need any meds at all :-) Such a blessing for me. Hopefully yours will change over too!

I eat all raw leading up and during (well except for dark vegan chocolate -- but a girl needs that on her period) and i drink LOTS of water and Alicia;s drink :) it really has helped me. I have always had very painful periods and am glad to help lessen the pain naturally now. I try not to take medication unless I'm dying, and I still use a hot towel or heating pad as necessary. I also try to rest as much as possible. It can be hard with work and obligations but I do try to go to bed early and rest as much as i can. it really helps. so does vegan chocolate ;)

Thanks, ladies, for all the great responses. I use the migrastick also, what an awesome creation! As far as detoxing, I really am not sure that is the issue. I have been eating vegan for awhile. I just bought daikon yesterday, so will try the drink. I have been drinking Cure-all tea for the last few days and it seems to help with feeling bloated. I think that because I don't get sick anymore, feel so good all the time, etc....that I automatically expect to feel perfect all the time.

Rest is super important. And lots of water. Like LOTS. I mean chug water. Whatever you need to do. And not just when you're pms-ing.
The reason I think my pms symptoms are really down low and I don't get cramps is because of a clean flexitarian(I'm working on it!) diet and lots of water everyday.
When you wake up in the morning, have a cup of room temp. water before eating/drinking anything else.

My PMS has eased since going Vegan, but its still very noticeable - I find resting and doing a litte yoga helps a lot too. Hope it improves for you soon :) Namaste x
