Hi All,
I went off a strong acne medicine (Spironolactone) about 3 months ago and immediately started experiencing hair loss. I have heard this can be normal, but after about 8 weeks I called my doctor b/c I was getting concerned. Her solution - go back on the medicine! I don't want to stay on a med I don't need so I found this ridiculous. It's still not getting better after going on the multi-vitamin she recommended. Does anyone know of a natural remedy for hair loss? I know so many things can be combatted by eating healthy foods and I'm hoping there is something I can eat to help.
Thanks in advance!

I lost alot of hair due to taking a medication as well. Mine still is not back to normal and I've been off the meds about 2 months now. The thing I noticed that helped some is flaxseed. I sperinkle it on my veggies and in cereal and I also take the tablets. Mines not falling out as bad anymore it just takes I while for it to thicken back up.

Melissa-try Maxi-Hair vitamins by Country Life. You can purchase them at Vita Coast. They have worked well for all my hair up's and down's.

Remember that your hair only grows about 1/4 to 1/2 inch a month. So it may take several months before you even notice any changes. AND the hair follicles that were affected by the medicine you were on are probably still recuperating from it, so that hair will need to fall out before new hair can grow in its place.
The last thing I would do is go back on a medicine that I don't need.
Hair loss can be caused by hormonal changes, which is probably what happened when you went off the meds. Your body needs time to adjust and get back to a normal balance.
I am talking from experience. I started losing lots of hair a couple of months ago. I had a really tough summer of menopausal ups and downs. The hair loss has slowed down, but not completely stopped. And new hair is sprouting up. I have all these lovely little pieces sticking out all over my head. But it will grow.

Another great thing for hair loss (and many other probs, including too much mercury/other nasty stuff in your body) is Modifilan. It is brown seaweed extract from Japan, and you can get it online from several sites. Don't know for sure if it comes in veggie caps though, i stopped taking it when my hair loss issues straightened out a long time ago.

Thanks for all the advice! I just did some research on the Modifilan french_momma recommended and it looked so great I bought it online. I can't wait to get it! I've been pulling out clumps of hair out every morning so I'm ready for it to stop falling out and start regrowing!

Good! i am glad you are trying it. a friend of mine who's Japanese told me that most people who immigrate here from Japan take the supplement because they cannot get it fresh in the U.S.- she is the one who got me started on it. Hope it helps!

Hi Melissa,

A regular scalp massage is good for the roots of the hair. Regular massaging would provide a good head of healthy and shiny hair. I would also like to suggest a tip i.e. using egg yolk as it is also good for a scalp massage. It will make your hair soft, bouncy and strengthen them as well.

However it is necessary to get expert medical advice from a hair expert once in a while. For those who are looking for a qualified and experienced hair expert then they can definitely look up their local doctor or even they can take help of Dr. Cole who is renowned for his expertise the field of Trichology. You can set up a free initial consultation for which you may visit http://www.forhair.com/Office_Locations.htm to get more information.
