My croquettes worked fine (though this was my second try too, the first went in the trash because I forgot all about them, as did another poster) but my kids HATED them. I thought they tasted a lot like falafel too. I think maybe the trick is hot enough oil to cook them together right away and also mashing the beans more. Mine second batch worked better after I processed them into an almost hummus like consistency.

I made falafel but when I went to fry them they borke apart and I was left with falafel breadcrumbs. They tasted good though...

I'm glad that I'm not the only one this happened to!!! I used a blender bc I don't have a food processor...and when I went to fry them they just broke apart. :( It was really sad.

I was really looking forward to trying this recipe too.

I am really suprised to see all the issues people have been having with the croquettes :( I actually added about 1/4 cup shoyu (instead of the 1 tablespoon) and I also added about 1 1/2 tablespoons of shallot. I added cilantro and parsley (not just one or the other). The last thing I did different was add a clove of garlic. I soaked the black eyed peas overnight and blended everything in the food processor (you really need one). They were so yum!!! Even my husband loved them and he is soooo picky! I can't tell you how great they tasted! Give it another shot...great superbowl appetizer I think!

does anyone know if this recipe works if the black eyed peas are cooked and not just soaked?
