I used arrowroot instead of kuzu because kuzu was too expensive for me :(. Yes, I think it can be done. The pears turned out awesome! It's a great recipe!

glad to hear, thanks so much! it really sucks how expensive some of these ingredients cost.....it's crazy! have you bought maple sugar? it is insane....i bought a tiny container and it was $10.50!! nevermind the 2 cups you need for the pumpkin bread.

Same thing happened to me with the maple sugar! I have a tiny jar that I ration. At least it's kept me from making too many sweets...although I have one bag of Turbinado sugar left, part of which I used to make chocolate chip cookies two days ago...ooo I'm bad!! :) Anyway, I would love to be able to afford a large bag of maple sugar, but my checkbook can't take the hit right now...Yeah, I'd say most of the Japanese ingredients/sea vegetables cost a lot, maple sugar, and of course vegan convenience foods. I haven't made the pumpkin bread yet, but I made the peanut butter cups, and I used some agave syrup to keep from using too much maple sugar...haha very pricey ;).
