I am currently reading The Kind Life and while I am only on page 50, I know by the end my choice will be to join the vegan lifestyle. My dilema at this point, however, is what to do with my leather, suede and otherwise 'animal cruel' apparel, shoes, etc........any kind suggestions?

Darcy,
You could allways donate them to a women's shelter, or a church. I give my things to the American Kidney Fund. They do not test on animals.

Thanks Natasha--I appreciate the tip on the American Kidney Fund!

My sister just made the vegan switch and she cleaned out her fridge and freezer of meat and dairy and gave it to my mom and dad. You could donate your "cruel" apparel to a local thrift store and/or family or friends. To people that are not vegan and not planning on becoming vegan anytime soon, the items have real value to them. Plus it's a "kind" way to do things by recycling.

Thanks Sarah--it really is going to be hard to let go of those 'material' possession's but I know I'll need to do it and you're right, I have many friends and family who would LOVE some of my stuff.

I'd feel like a walking contradiction, I think, to keep it but I'm thinking it will be a slower process than going vegan as I'll need to get rid of something as I can replace it with something cruelty free. I can not afford to purge it all immediately and be left 'shoeless'.

Don't feel bad about taking your time to 'purge' ;o)
Many vegans continue using these items until they wear out, which could take years. So replacing them a little at a time as you can afford it is certainly ok.

Does anyone know of any great websites where you can purchase eco-friendly, and un-cruel clothing etc?

Hi Emily--I found this site www.alternativeoutfitters.com, let me know if that helps!

French_Momma--I appreciate the sentiment about taking my time, I think I will do just that--replace as they wear out and as I can afford to. One step at a time!

I know that PETA accepts Fur donations, I don't know about anything else but I don't know why they wouldn't.
