My Green Birthday- need suggestions or input

My 18th birthday is this coming January. At first I was hoping to take all of my friends to a vegan cooking class so they could become more aware of the vegan lifestyle, but there are no classes in my area.
So my new idea is a party about taking care of yourself, your community and your world. It involves volunteering at a local shelter for a couple hours first and then all car pooling back to my aunt's yoga studio where we will try some laughter yoga exercises, make compost bins, and eat delicious vegan desserts. With each activity I would print out little information slips on recycled paper concerning every activity and how it contributes to the world and yourself. I would also hand out little information packets about veganism, steps you can take to make your home more green, etc.
I am unsure of the compost bins, and I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions.
I want to inform my friends about the world around them and the positive effect they can have on society and how they can be healthy and not be eating boring food and having to give up all sweets. I don't want to convert I just want to help them be more aware.
Thanks for any help.
