I have been a vegetarian for 12 1/2 years and I have tried to go vegan many times but I have been unsuccessful. I just can not give up eating cheese. It has become a part of every meal for me and my daily consumption of it is way to much. Does anyone have any advice on ways to kick this habit.
Dairy foods are a significant part of our dietary culture. Dairy ingredients are often added to processed foods and show up where you wouldn't think they would be. Food manufacturers understand the powerful effects that dairy foods have on consumers. They place these ingredients in their products because their research has found that it increases consumption. Dairy foods all originate from milk, which is of course how mammals feed their babies. All mammal babies are born relatively weak and defenseless. Mammals require a longer period of nurturing than most other animals. Female mammals have mammary glands that distinguish them from all other animals. Milk contains powerful ingredients that encourage the infant to bond with its mother. In short, the consumption of dairy foods has addictive like effects. Dairy proteins are broken down by the human system into caso-morphines. These are powerful molecules that have similar effects to the drug morphine. Consuming dairy food feels like mothers love. This is why food producers include it in products like saltines or soup. Even in amounts too small to taste, dairy products promote consumption.
