Is anybody else out there needing a post holiday detox? I know I am. I definitely did not stay vegan this holiday, vegetarian yes. I still struggle so much when around all the family with aaallllll the non-vegan food. I bring my option (yummy roasted brussel sprouts and cauliflower with toasted breadcrumbs) but I can't just eat that?! I didn't eat the ham, but my mother in law asked me what I thought of it and I said yummy! I do not think I am ready to tell them nor do I think they are ready to hear me say I'm not eating meat, much less dairy, cheese, butter... Some of you out there are stronger than me. I did have potatoe casserole, poppy seed bread, rolls, cake, salad (good:) and on and on. Ugh! Detox stat!! Hope everyone is having a great holiday!! Be safe, the blizzard here is crazy.

I stayed mostly vegan but slipped up a couple of times. Not too happy with myself. The great thing was that most of my extended family was really cool with my new way of eating (I was not expecting that at all).

January 1st I'm starting a 21-day "cleanse", or "jumpstart", rather. PCRM.org is hosting an official (free) one where they send out daily emails and meal plans. To supplement this, Kathy Freston (the woman who inspired Oprah to go vegan for awhile) has a Quantum Wellness 21-day vegan (and also eliminating sugar, alcohol, & caffeine) cleanse book I'm using for inspiration.

Check it out! :) Happy holidays!

HELP!! i STARTED WITH AN office Christmas party and had white mashed potatoes and from there it's all a blur!! I have had too much sugar and am tired, sluggish, fat and slow!! how long does it take to get off this holiday sugar high?? It feels like it's all around me!!Snacked on cinnamon buns late last night!!Maybe trying the Superhero diet today is a good start.Let me know any other ideas that have worked for you that stop the sugar cravings.. thanks so much, Patricia in Florida.

Get all your non vegan food out of the house, that's first. It's too hard to say no when a platter of cheese or cake or cheese cake is staring you in the face. Then just pick up where you left off, that's what I'm doing, new day, new start!

I am just starting fresh today without regret. Yesterday, I indulged in some non-vegan treats (christmas cookies, and I'm sure some dishes were prepared with dairy, white bread...) but this morning, I woke up and had a healthy breakfast of brown rice, spinach with lemon and pepper, and beans. Next, I packed up the sweets and Christmas cookies that were given to me, and made a basket to take to the break room. (I can't bring myself to throw food away, even if it's not something I want to eat). On Christmas Eve, I bought a lot of greens and I am just jumping right back on the horse today.
Just remember; nobody is perfect. Forgive yourself and move forward! :)

Thanks Steph, You're right! I ate brown rice and spinach tonight for dinner and oatmeal for breakfast and already feel better. I have a long history of beating myself up for going off food programs but now I have achance to do it better. I re-read The Kind Diet again esp. about sugar and it all helped.thanks again! Yes, Forgiveness is kindness and move forward.Patricia.

I actually stayed vegan through the holidays, but ate more processed foods than normal, and I do feel more sluggish now. It's time to get back to fresh foods for me!

I'm glad someone started this discussion, because I'm feeling a little down on myself after the holidays! I'm actually still at home until December 31st, and it continues to be a challenge! I have been doing pretty well, considering the fact that my parents are unsupportive...but I had a few slipups with dairy that I feel really bad about! I ate one chocolate that apparently had "butterfat" in it even though it was dark. And, I ordered soy cheese wontons at a restaurant that were so good I devoured them all. When I asked the waiter what kind of soy cheese they use, I realized it was a brand with casein in it. Also, I've been eating lots of sugary things and less veggies than usual because my parents' fridge has no room in it and they aren't big veggie eaters. I can't wait to go back to clean eating when I get home. My parents are taking me to babycakes bakery before I go back upstate, which I'm really excited about (they don't know it's vegan, haha). My mom humored me and took me to Gobo and Vegetarian Dim Sum House in NYC because it was my turn to pick the restaurants. Anyway, I have lots of brown rice, and I made baked beans, polenta, stuffed mushrooms, and tofu florentine...but ironically, even though my parents don't "like" vegan food, they've been taking whatever I made for lunch and adding meat to it, so I run out pretty quick. It's been a struggle eating while at home, since my food disappears and my mom keeps trying to give me milk chocolate. At least they are sort of getting the idea that my vegetarianism is "strict," but they certainly aren't making it easy for me. We are going to Bravo's for dinner tonight, and I didn't even love that restaurant when I wasn't vegan. I forgot my "Kind Diet" book at my house! So, I've been making do with my creativity and "The Vegan Table," which is a good book. Post holiday detox is right around the corner!

Hi everyone!

Ohmannn I was not able to stay vegan this holiday...I was vegetarian and tried to stay vegan, but it was impossible at my parents house. They are kind enough to make me vegetarian meal, but they don't quite understand the vegan thing. It took time for them to understand me not eating meat...now it's just the next step. Today is all clean eating though! I want to clean my apartment out of junk I don't need and I want to eat superhero as much as possible, but atleast always vegan. I feel so much better eating vegan..it's amazing how eating animal products affects me now that I've obstained for over a month...okay I'm rambling, but I feel for everyone that messed up a bit this holiday, but today is a fresh start:) yay!
