Hullo there everyone! :) I've been playing with the idea of becoming vegan for the past month or so, and have finally committed to it and I feel so happy with my choice in body and mind! :) It's one of the biggest departures in lifestyle I've taken from my family and friends, whom I'm very close to, and the adjustment is a bit rocky, it's hard in any circumstance to tell people you love that you no longer want to live exactly as they do, it's hard for some people to understand. But I've still got wonderful support, and the inspiring knowledge that following through with my decision is good for others, good for the planet, and good for myself. And I'm having so much fun! :) I come from Hawaii and from a japanese family, so eating many of the macrobiotic/japanese foods is hardly a transition at all! And now that I'm living in NYC for a bit, I'm finding it to be one of the most vegan-friendly cities ever! Never in my life did i think I would be the kind of person to choose a vegan way of living, but now that I have, I'm pretty sure I won't be looking back ;)
Just wanted to say hello to everybody and thank everyone for contributing to a great site and a great cause and a great forum!
If anyone has any advice or knowledge to impart about being vegan, being vegan in NYC, or just life in general, I'd be super grateful :)
Much love and enjoy a very wonderful holiday season!!!!
Hello, Shaynie. I see your post is from over a year ago. I only just discovered Kind Connect. I hope you are still on. My name is Judith-Anne E. Jean-Francois Benfari......very much a mouthful, yes. Please call me Judi. I just went vegan in October of 2010 and, while it is the best decision I've ever made, it is a very lonely journey. I am Haitian-American, so my family is so not understanding this at all and, being that my family is 95% doctors, they keep telling me this is not healthy at all. I am seeking to build a good circle of friends with whom support, encouragement, advice and fun abound.
