Yes she's right! Sugar is crack...

These past couple of days have been hard sticking to my veggie and vegan desiring ways. We had the Christmas holiday here at my house and so you can just imagine the treats and leftovers that are around. I read The Kind Diet today, the whole thing (!), and while I was reading and taking notes like a fiend I was eating veggies and dairy sour cream, even though I have Tofutti Sour Supreme in the fridge. Also someone gave me a 32, or 42, piece box of Fererro Rochets (sp) as a gift so you can guess correctly that I ate a handful of those too. I'm really weak when it comes to food since when I was single and living on my own I did not make much money and could not eat what I wanted. Now I can and saying no to dairy sour cream dip and chocolates is extremely hard. I could go buck wild and toss everything but that would upset the peace in my home.
So what should I be popping into my craw when I get the craving for things like dairy chocolate and cheese? I looked at the recipes in TKD and as much as I want to be healthy I wasn't exactly drooling over the recipes that I saw. All I could think about was what I could not have and about how much I dislike grains even though I've experienced the amazing health benefits that they give.
If I can do the 30 days, which I've done before on my own, by week three, just like Alicia said in TKD, I know I'll re experience that healthy clear and clean feeling. Just right now I am struggling with wanting what I shouldn't have and not wanting what I should.
Thoughts/ suggestions for bad food temptation along with family that does not help?
Thanks!

it takes about 2 weeks to kick sugar, it is very hard and you will experience some undesirable side effects (mood swings + cravings) but after the 2 weeks it'll stop and you wont crave it anymore. too much salt also give you cravings for sugar and other things and binges etc. You just have to bite the bullet with the sugar! good luck - as for the dairy all the non-dairy alternatives taste just as nice once you get used to them and there is so much variety out there.try not to beat yourself up or feel guilty just try and do what you can, you;ll get there if you really want to. good luck.
Thanks Helly! I think I'll set up a calendar to focus on so I can get back up on the horse.
I'm with you greenseater! Saying no to the Fererro's is very very hard. I've been finding it easy to stay away from animal products, but the sugar keeps calling... so I think I'm going to throw away all the sugary treats I got for Christmas and perhaps then I won't be so tempted. Good luck with your sugary struggle!
I can sympathize with your struggle ... so much sugar EVERYWHERE this time of year ... it calls me LOL. I can tell you what helps me with dairy cravings: Tofutti cream cheese spread on some whole grain crackers with a bit or dill or garlic granules sprinkled on top - seems to do the trick (this still probably qualifies as junk food.. but it's better than some ;) Good luck kicking the sugar, I'm there with you working on it too!
Let me take this opportunity to sing the praises of raw balls... Throw everything in the food processor, spend a few minutes with your fingers in sticky batter making little balls and rolling them in coconut, and voilà !, a yummy treat to keep in the freezer for emergency chocolate cravings. Disclosure: I replace half of the caroube powder with (organic) cocoa powder.
P.S. Feel your pain, ate much cheese at xmas.
Melanie,Ashley and Brenda,
Thank you ladies for the kind words and support! I will DEFINITELY try those Tofutti and crackers since I have Tofutti cream cheese in the fridge! Yay!And Brenda that's such a great idea. In fact today I remembered I made some raw coconut fudge for my mother, she has food allergies,at Christmas and had an extra tin in the freezer! So I ate 4 little squares and mmmmm they hit the spot! I'll have to try the recipe you suggested.
Thanks all! : )
