Vegan. A new word I have added to my vocabulary since I finised reading The Kind Diet. I was horrified at the things I had been eating for years and what that food could do to my body. Anyway, I live in a small town in Alabama and I can't seem to find the food I need for the recipes in the book. There doesn't seem to be any vegan resturants or food suppliers. Does anyone know of some places in Alabama where I could find the food?

Congrats and welcome to the vegan world. That is too bad that there are not a lot of local food suppliers in your area. Does your town have a farmers market? That is a good way to get fresh organic items. I live in CA, but in a predominantly meat eating area. So, I have to go to 4 stores sometimes to get what I want. The stores I go to are: Trader Joe's, Sprouts, Henry's and Baron's. Do you have any of those stores? It would be ideal if there was a Whole Foods Market near by. I can only dream that will happen. :-) Good luck to you and stay strong. Your body will thank you.

I'm in the Middle Tennessee area and I have been pleasantly suprised at the food I can find at Kroger's and Publix. I'm not sure how small your town is, but have you taken a close look at the Asian markets in your area? I was shocked to find about 4 or 5 in my town. Some are a little off my normal routes and some I just never noticed before.

I live in Eastern Tennessee and I have to drive 45 minutes to get to any health food stores in my area. We have one local store that really isn't very vegan friendly, and Earth Fare, which does have a lot of vegan products and is 100% organic... but is pure love:) Anyway, you can google "health food stores near _____" and see what comes up. I just tried it and found out there is actually a small one in my town. You might be surprise at what you find! Good luck!

I can relate. I live in South Louisiana. Our local grocery store does carry a specialty section so I have been able to find a bit of stuff there. For other things I travel an hour to New Orleans to shop at Whole Foods.
Hang in there girl!

I have been completely surprised by what I've found at Publix as well. They have a lot of vegan items there. I also browse the sale ad every week for good buys.

And I have ordered some things on Amazon as well. I choose automatic shipping on some items I use frequently and get a 10% discount.

There is a Whole Foods in Birmingham, and there are several in Georgia as well. I don't know how much you travel to the Atlanta area, but there are a lot more veg-restaurants there than in Birmingham or Huntsville.
