Allergy to Tempeh?

I hate tofu, so I tried Tempeh for the first time last night. I actually really liked it. I used a creole recipe from "The Conscious Cook". I had to cut the recipe in half, but somehow didn't cut the cajun seasoning in half, so the dish was veryyyy salty. I couldn't eat the whole thing, but did eat a bit. Then, a couple hours later and then all through the night, I had terrible pains in my upper stomach just below my ribcage. I have never felt this before; it wasn't gas or nausia; it was a burning, filling pain. I am wondering if my stomach was reacting to the salt overload, or if maybe I have a problem with Tempeh. I don't have a reaction to any other kind of soy product. Has this happened to anyone else?

Actually the spices in the cajun seasoning is probably the culprit to your pains. Hot spices or peppers are pretty jarring to the ole system. Alicia does talk about this in her book. I would try it again but maybe do something simple like cook the tempeh in a little tamari sauce instead of the cajun spices... Every whoops in the kitchen is a learning experience for me too! Adjusting for the next time is half the fun.

Thank you - I was thinking the high sodium and cayenne might be the culprit, as I haven't been eating a lot of spice for a couple months now. I will try it again and back off on the seasoning.
