Hey all, I'm glad I found this site! I was looking for some others who were vegan for animal rights reasons in addition to health reasons. Anyway, i'm knew to this site and don't know to work everything so much...so below is something I wrote on my own board by accident. Any thoughts would be helpful!
I don't know what "board" this is being posted on so I apologize if its completely random and out of place! (I'm not so good with Forums and stuff.) Anyway, I am vegan. I started last year, slipped up a few times but am back full force. My question/concern/thought is this...I have lots of leather and wool I don't know what to do with. If i gave everything away that had wool or leather I wouldn't really be able to go outside during these cold months and I'd have to go out and buy something to replace them. Not only is that wasteful but I'm not really in the position to do so seeing as though I'm a full-time second degree student, part-time worker with loads of student loans already in repayment. Also, a lot of it was bought by my parents, was relatively expensive, and was given to me as presents a while ago. They're good pieces that will probably last a long time. I feel really guilty wearing them so I rarely do but also feel guilty giving them away. UGH! What should I do!? I don't have any vegan friends so any insight would help (especially from those that are vegan for animal rights reasons!) Thanks.
I can relate--that's a good question & I thought (and worried) about the very same thing. I have a few items made of leather and wool & silk that i either bought a long time ago-or they were given to me a long time ago-and i'm not ready to part with them just yet. I'm just not going to buy any other item that's made out of leather/wool/silk. I need advice on the same thing----for now-all i can think of-is that we can donate these items when we're ready to let go of them---or give them away--or sell them on ebay??
