When I feel one coming on I mix a bit of apple cider vinegar, water, and lemon juice together and with a q-tip I dab a little bit on. It usually stings a tiny bit. And I make sure I don't touch it!
And then it goes away!

Oh sooo funny Zinni, I just got one a couple weeks after posting that I don't get them anymore. :-) None of my usual tricks worked, but I think it was because this one came on from allergy and not normal reasons.

Anyway, I remembered that ACV works for everything else on me, so I gave it a try and sure enough it dried up over night. Just came on here to post and saw your thread. :-) YAY for ACV!

Really good to know about the apple cider vinegar trick.. I will try it next time. My problem has been acne breakouts since going vegan 3 months ago. Very frustrating since I read that my skin was supposed to be getting better. I am 43 and feel like a teenager again!

What great timing to see this post. I used to get cold sores but hadn't for a while and have been "flirting" with vegan and have one. I was curious if it was detox. I hope it is! It makes it easier to deal with the cold sore if I know it is because my body is trying to get rid of toxic yuck! Thank you!

So glad to know Im not alone in dealing with these little devils! I hate them so much. When I originally posted this they were at their worst. Since then I've been taking l-lysine supplements daily. I take 2000 a day. I know that might seem excessive but until my detox period is over I'll continue doing this and it has worked wonders! Also, about acne; I too suffer horribly from acne. I have since high school... :\ I finally had it under control until I went vegan. I keep reminding myself that this is all a detox and the end result will be marvelous! :)

Thanks veggie friends for all the feedback <3

I agree with Sofia Blue: excess arginine makes my coldsores go wild (I get them more frequently).

And you find lots of arginine in: nuts, seeds, beans, lentils and chocolate.

So yes, I would say Veganism = coldsores.

ps. I only stay away from these healthy foods when I get the tingling feeling on my lip, when I have a coldsore/s, or when I'm "destined" to have it (= when I have a cold/flu)... so not most of the time!!

I haven't experienced any cold sores while going vegan but I've had a few in years past. L-lysine always worked for me too. I take one of those supplements as soon as I start feeling that tingling *twinge*, and they either never surface or I find them less severe with the lysine supplement.

I was hoping mine was from detox too!! The thought of not getting them any more would be fabulous!!

I use the L-Lysene and have a lot of success.... also I put tea tree oil on it...dries it right up. Fight it from the inside and the outside!! Little buggers!! I'll have to try the ACV trick too.... Thanks Zinni
