Veganism = coldsores?

i also got a cold sore this week! today marks my 1 month to date Vegan...it is almost gone now thankfully but i think that it was also stress... my husband left this past week for Iraq and one of my children got into a fight and suspended from school so ya - stress and detox could possibly be the answer...
This is interesting because I have the opposite effect. As long as I remember I have gotten 2 - 4 outbreaks a year and very little will stop them. Since going vegan a few months ago, I haven't got once.
.. I am going to go knock on wood now...
The two biggest foods to avoid if you have cold sores are almonds and peanuts. Also, L-Lysine is a supplement that should be taken daily if you have cold sores, not just when they pop up. Hope this helps. :)
I use neat geranium oil and put it directly on my lips before bed. They usually go by the morning.

I also heard a connection with cold sores and citrus fruit. Especially Oranges.
For those who are not familiar with cold sores. True cold sores are a herpes virus. You have to be infected with the virus to get them. Food can not and does not cause them, but certain foods can cause the virus to flare up. Just want to make sure we aren't scaring people that becoming vegan causes cold sores.
Yes, I agree with islandgirl. The name of this thread is poorly choosen.
Anyone with a brain thinking about becoming vegan would HOPEFULLY know veganism does not CAUSE coldsores... I mean herpes... my bad, let me be MORE specific; HVS1 ;) But thank you Island Girl and Anna R for clearing that up....
I actually have genital herpes, but, with medication would typically get one or 2 outbreaks a year. Since becoming vegan 6 months ago, I have had outbreaks continously. I did some google research and found other message boards with people having similar reactions to going vegan. I added in a Lysine supplement a few weeks ago and am going to give it another week or 2 and, if things don't improve, I am going to have to start adding back in some non-vegan foods to see if that helps clear things up. I generally eat a clean diet - not much sugar or alcohol. But, given the choice between eating dairy and/or meat or having herpes outbreaks 24/7 for the rest of my life... well...
