I dont get cold sores because I have genital herpes. Imberassing but the truth. I can't rely compare the outbreaks pre-vegan to post-vegan because ive been vegan for 2 years now and i found out i had genital herpes about 4 months ago. However i will ask if there are foods or something natural to prevent or cure outbreaks. I have a prescription to valtrex but i HATE taking pills and it makes me feel drowsy and slightly depressed.

Vegan diets can also be low in the mineral zinc which is needed for healthy immune function.

Nuts and seeds such as pumpkin seeds are good sources of zinc.

I don't have oral herpes but once time a few years ago I thought I did, or maybe had really chapped lips. I didn't know. I was seriously confused at the time. Perhaps the problem I had is actually what some of you have been experiencing.

The first year I was vegan I didn't know about the B12 thing, so I didn't take a supplement. Almost a year to the day, my chiropractor noticed that the skin around my lips was cracked and peeling. I had thought my lips were chapped because it was January and I'd been outside a lot, or maybe I'd gotten orla herpes, like I said above. He informed me I had a B12 deficiency and it would be hard to replenish myself. So I tried a bunch of different brands, like I said before, and nothing helped. My skin got really gross and painful. After about four months, I found the B12 supplement from Solgar and my skin cleared up within three days, seriously. Within a month I felt like a million bucks. I've used it every day since.
