Just bought the book and am easing my way into vegan. For years I've been a flexitarian/pescetarian and ate pretty well but tended to rely too much on take-out (that's what Manhattan is for). I have started cooking again, which is great. I'm really having a REALLY hard time weaning myself of off caffeine. Has anyone else struggled with that?

Hi Laura! I'm from Westchester/grew up in the City :-)... I, personally, did not have trouble and I still have caffiene every once in a while. My friend drank this tea from Celestial Seasons called Roastaroma and that helped her.

Hello Laura :) I do not have much experience with caffeine in any beverage form EXCEPT coffee. I used to be an avid coffee drinker. Every morning, three cups, then off to work. I decided to quit the caffeine cold turkey though when I noticed it cut in to my sleep and energy stores a lot more then I thought. I know it is hard, especially when it fits so nicely into your daily routine, but I think that is the best way to go about it. To fill the void of my steaming cup of joe in the morning, I now drink non-caffeinated herbal tea. Also, you have to think about whether it is the caffeine you can't live without or the actual beverages. I absolutely love the taste and aroma of a good cup of coffee so when I am really craving it I have decaf (which I know has trace amounts of caffeine still) and it usually calms the crave. Hope this helps :)

Thanks guys! Great ideas! Hadn't tried Roastarama but will look for it. Will also look for Teavana online. I have been drinking more tea, alternating green/black/macro-friendly. I really miss the TASTE of coffee as much as the caffeine, so tea that tastes sort of like coffee may be a big help. I do drink decaf coffee sometimes; I find that it often has an aftertaste I'm not crazy about but haven't sampled a lot of varieties.

Hi! I was never a coffee drinker (my battle was with soda), but I agree that herbal teas are the way to go! I sometimes order tea from Mountain Rose Herbs, and I noticed that they sell a tea called "Herbal Coffee." It is a mixture of various herbs that together have a kind of coffee flavor, but it is an all-natural herbal tea.

Mountain Rose Herbs has sustainable practices and tries to go organic whenever possible. They are inexpensive too. Don't worry, you and coffee will part ways eventually! :)

Hi Evie. Thanks! Didn't know about this company, will definitely check them out.

I had a terrible Diet Coke/Pepsi habit myself.
